ABSTRACT
OBJECTIVES: Mucoceles are chronic, slow-growing, mucosa-lined lesions found in the
paranasal sinuses that are locally damaging, causing bony resorption and develop leading to expansions of the sinus wall, frequently to intraorbital and intracranial involvement. Mucoceles arising as a result from obstruction of sinus ostium and resulting accumulation of mucus, secondary to previous surgery, allergic reaction, inflammation, trauma or a tumor mass. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective review conducted on patients with mucocele diagnosis in the period from January 2012 to December 2017. We describe patient age and sex, mucocele location, clinical features, surgical approaches, recurrence and complications. The study is aimed at describing the characteristics of paranasal sinuses mucoceles along with the treatment in a tertiary healthcare centre. RESULTS: The most commonly affected location are the frontal and ethmoid sinuses. The clinical symptoms are devious, varying with the amount of the affected region. Treatment of paranasal sinuses is surgical marsupialization, either by endoscopic or external approach. CONCLUSIONS: Endonasal surgery has a safe approach and become the procedure of choice in paranasal sinus mucoceles management.
