ABSTRACT:
The audits arise from the Roman Empire, due to the need to commission a person to evaluate that
the messengers of the empire transmit the message without distorting it. Just as the Roman Empire
needed auditors to regulate these activities, in the 20th century the need for environmental
assessment systems forced the creation of policies to control environmental impacts, from policies
such as SUPERFUND to the creation of ISO 14000 standards. This is how environmental audits
methodological tool for conducting environmental assessments, which regulate the activities of a
production process of any industry or organization. Being a tool for environmental assessment, it is
classified in different types of audits; that depend on the activity to be audited and the sector. Audits
most emphasize teas can be classified into internal and external. The Internal Audits are carried out
by an audit team that is part of the audited company. Normally this type of audit aims to improve
productive activities through a self-assessment and external audits are performed by a team of
auditors detached from the company, which evaluate the activities in order to proceed to deliver an
environmental license. All these types of environmental audits are governed by international
standards such as ISO 14000, specifically ISO 14001: 2015, which provides industries with the
licensing.
In order to carry out an environmental audit in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard, certain
In the first stage a general diagnosis must be carried out, carrying out a field inspection and a quick
visit of the facilities of the institution, it is the realization of a baseline in the industry to be audited.
In the second stage of development, we must begin with the planning, in which we have to gather
evidence regarding the findings found in the general diagnosis, in this stage all the faults found are
defined and must be evidenced by ruling certain guidelines that verify the information. In a next
stage of development, all the information found must be collected, generating a database necessary
to determine the validity of the records, after this, certain field trips must be executed and, if
warranted, carrying out sampling and analysis of laboratory so that the objective data have more
validity.
In the third stage, the objective results must be communicated, writing a report containing all the
corresponding observations, in order to communicate the findings and finalize the fieldwork. Once
the audit is concluded, the auditor should suggest carrying out a self-assessment of the processes
As the fourth stage and final stage of the environmental audit process, the audited industry should
be followed up, conducting an audit every two years after obtaining the license, this is to update the
database corresponding to the company and prevent future environmental damage by the company.
