1-1. Minimum System Requirements

 Computer with Pentium MMX 233 MHz and 32 MB memory

 USB Port
 Microsoft Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 or Windows XP
 VGA 16 bits color graphic card
 CD-ROM drive
 For Windows 98, Windows 98 installation CD

2. Installation
* This manual is for Windows 98. If using Windows 2000, XP, or Me the appearance of
certain windows may be different.

2-1. Device driver installation

(1) Connect the USB cable to the USB port of your computer. The screen shown below
appears. Click on the “Next” button.

(2) Select “Search for the best driver for your device” and click on the “Next” button.
(3) Insert the installation CD into your CD-ROM drive. Select “Specify a location” and click on
the “Browse” button. Appoint the path 'driver' in CD-ROM drive.

(4) The screen shown below appears if Windows finds the correct drivers on the installation CD.
Click on the “Next” button.
(5) The Windows 98 installation CD might be required if your computer is using
Windows 98 for the operating system. Please insert the same version of the Windows
98 installation disk and click on the “OK” button to proceed.

(6) To finish installation, click on the “Finish” button.

(7) In order to confirm the successful installation, Open “System” in “Control Panel” and
move to “Device Manager”. If the screen shown below appears at “Imaging Device”, the
installation has been completed successfully.

2-2. Software Installation

(1) Insert the installation CD. The installation program should start automatically and the
screen below will be displayed. If the installation program does NOT start automatically, then
click on the “Start,  “Run” and type “X:\setup.exe”. X is the name of the CD-ROM drive.
For example, if the CD-ROM drive is D, Type “D:\setup.exe”.

(2) If DirectX 8.0 or higher is not installed in your system, select “Install DirectX 8.0a” and
install DirectX 8.0.

(3) Select “Install AF Grabber View” button to start the installation of the viewer program.
Select English and click on the “OK” button.

(4) Click on the “Next” button.

(5) You can select the Destination Folder. Click on the “Browse” button, then select the
directory you want to install the AF Image Grabber I and click on the “Next” button.
(6) After selecting the program folder name, click on the “Next” button. The installation of the
program will start.

(7) If installation has been successful, click on the “Finish” button.

3. Operation
3-1. Viewer Program

You can watch the camera image and capture single frames or clips using ‘still image’ / ’AVI’.
Additionally, you can control the camera by using the virtual remote controller.

1) The Window for live video display.

The video window displays the live video image.

(2) The virtual remote control.

Activated with the ‘Remote Controller’ button. This enables the user to control the camera
directly through the USB connection. The buttons on the virtual remote relay control commands
to the camera.

Virtual Remote Index of Functions:

Power Button- Turns power on and off.
OSD- On screen display.
B/L- Back light compensation on/off.
BRT(+)- Increase picture brightness.
NEG/POS- Image negative or positive mode.
LANG- Language options ( English ).
BRT(-)- Decrease picture brightness.
D.EFFECT- Digital effect ( 3 effects ).
B/W- Monochrome/color mode toggle.
SHARP(+)- Increase picture sharpness.
PUSH- Push lock.
MIRROR- Mirror mode off/on.
SHARP(-)- Decrease image sharpness.
S/S- Shutter speed toggle.
W/B- White balance toggle auto/push lock.
B(+)- Blue gain adjustment for white balance.
INIT.DATA- Initial data reset.
MENU- On screen menu options.
.R(+)- Red gain adjustment for white balance.
TELE- Telephoto
NEAR- Focus near
FOCUS- Manual/auto focus toggle.
FAR- Focus far
WIDE- Wide angle

3) The capture list

The capture list is displayed when a file has been recorded and allows you to review captured
clips. As additional clips are recorded, they are held in the capture list bin until renamed and
saved to a permanent location with the ‘Save As’ command or deleted. Captured files are
overlapped from the end of one file to the beginning of the next.

The ‘Options’, button brings up the ‘capture options’ window.

‘Capture directory’ appoints a directory where the captured file is saved temporarily.

The ‘Delete unsaved capture files when exit’, deletes all temporary files when the viewer is

The ‘Image viewer’ and ‘AVI player’ are used to determine what viewing program will be used
to open temporary files. To appoint a program other than the default, select the ‘Other’ and
click the ‘(...)’.

‘Still capture format’ appoints the image file type ( Bitmap or JPEG ) for captured still images
to be stored in.

(4) Still image capture

If you click on the ‘Still image capture’ button in the live video window, the image shown on
the screen is captured as a single frame. The captured file will overlap the next captured
image. If you want to save the captured file, click on the ‘Save As’ button and save the file to
the desired location.

(5) AVI capture

The ‘AVI capture’ button in the live video window brings forth the ‘AVI capture’ window.
 Click on the ‘Start’ to start to begin the video capture.
 To limit the recording time use the ‘Enable Time Limit’ option.
 The 21/21Z704USB camera does not have audio capture capabilities and the ‘Capture
Audio’ option is disabled.

If you click on the ‘AVI Options’, the following window appears. You can change the ‘video
compression codec’.

3-2. TWAIN Driver

The TWAIN Driver allows you to capture a TWAIN recognized still image file that can be used
in secondary software. The TWAIN driver supports a variety of image editing software
including Adobe’s ‘Photoshop’.
Use the ‘Select’ key to define the still image source. Typically in a program that supports
TWAIN, you can select the device through ‘File --> Select Source…’. The following window
appears. Select ‘AF Image Grabber I’. Click on the ‘Select’ button.
If you select ‘File --> Acquire’ in the image editing software, the ‘AF Image Grabber I’ window
appears. Adjust the Video Control levels as desired and click the ‘Capture Still Image’ button
The captured image is automatically transferred into the image editing program.
4. Troubleshooting

[Q] The message, 'Can’t detect device...' is shown.

[A] 1. Check the power is ‘ON’.
2. Make sure that the camera is connected to computer.
3. Check that the driver is installed.
Select the 'Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> System --> Device Manager --> Image
Device'. Check that ‘AF Image Grabber I’ is recognized.
4. Make sure that other programs are NOT using the camera. If so, close the program and

[Q] The image is garbled or unstable.

[A] Make sure your monitor display is set properly. You can get the best image with the monitor
set to 24 bits color. Or press the ‘INIT, DATA’ button in the window for the remote controller.

[Q] Insufficient image speed.

[A] If the image is very slow when you capture and play AVI files, please follow the below
1. Move to Start --> Setting --> Control Panel --> System --> Device Manager.
2. Select the list of ‘Disk Drives --> Properties --> Settings’ and check the DMA option.
