Pronunciation
For the most part one Russian letter corresponds to one sound.
Ё is always stressed. О is pronounced а if unstressed: молоко - [малако] milk.
Е is pronounced и if unstressed: менеджер - [мениджир] manager.
Ending -го is always pronounced -во: его - [ево] his, him.
When consonants appear at the end of a word, they lose their voice.
б is pronounced like п: клуб - [клуп] club
в is pronounced like ф: Медведев - [мидведеф] Medvedev (a surname)
г is pronounced like к: маркетинг - [маркитинк] marketing
д is pronounced like т: шоколад - [шакалат] chocolate

Gender of Nouns
There are no articles used with nouns. There are three genders: masculine, feminine and neuter. Both
animate and inanimate nouns have a gender which depends on a word ending.
Masculine nouns normally end with a consonant or -й: город (city), номер (number), диджей (DJ).
Common exceptions: папа (dad), дядя (uncle), мужчина (man).
Feminine nouns normally end with –a or –я: фамилия (surname), фирма (firm)

Neuter nouns end with –о or –е: отчество (middle name), здание (building). Common exception: имя
(name)
Most nouns ending with –ь can be masculine or feminine: сеть (fem. network), день (masc. day),
стиль (masc. style)
