Answer all the five questions (2 x 5 = 10 marks)
4. A body is dropped from rest. Determine (a) the time required for it to acquire a velocity
of 16 m/s and (b) the time needed o increase its velocity from 16 m/s to 23 m/s.
V=u+gt t = 1.63 s
(b) t = 2.344 s

V = 4 m/s
V = u+gt ------ t = .40775

comes to rest .003 s after entering the block. Determine the average force that acted on
the bullet and the distance penetrated by it.
Use impulse momentum equation
Impulse = F x T
Impulse = Change in momentum = m2v2-m1v1
Work energy Principle
Work done = F x S
Workdone = Change in Kinetic energy = ½ m1v12

Find the velocity of each body after impact, if the coefficient of restitution is 0.8.
Law of conservation of momentum

m1= 30 kg u1 = 9 m/s m2 = 15 kg u2 = -9m/s e= .8
e = (v2-v1)/(u1-u2)
v2-v1 = 14.4m/s
V2 = 13 m/s
V1 = -1.8
