THE EFFECTIVENESS TEST OF THE EFFECT OF PINEAPPLE

EXTRACT (Ananas comosus ) AS AN ANTI-BACTERIA TOWARDS THE


GROWTH OF Staphylococcus aureus BACTERIA.

ABSTRACT

Background: Indonesia is well-known as a home of many different kinds of


biological resources, and most of those plants contain medicine substances which
is very potential for herbal medicine. One of the very beneficial plants for this is
Ananas comusus L. Merr. This plant contains vitamins (A and C), calcium,
phosphorus, magnecium, iron and bromelain enzyme. Its leaves, fruits and roots
contain saponin, flavonoida and polifenol. One of the bacteria which can cause
infection is Staphylococcus aureus. The lesion caused by Staphylococcus aureus
can be seen on the lesion abscess or acne. This abscess is the distinctive feature of
Staphylococcus infection.
Goal: To know the effects of the pineapple extract ( Ananas comucus ) as an
anti-bacteria towards the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
Research Method: The design of the research is a laboratory experimental
postest only control group by testing the activities of anti-bacteria using agar
diffusion method. The concentration of the pineapple extract tested are 50%,
25%, 15% and 10% with ciprofloxacin as the positive control and aquades as the
negative control. Each of them was retested for four times.
Research Result: The extract of the pineapple can hamper the growth of
Staphylococcus aureus on the concentration of 50%, 25% and 15%. The value of
minimal hamper degree is about 15%. And, the result of statistical test using one-
way ANOVA meets a significant value, p<0.05. This means, there is a significant
difference about the influence of the pineapple axtract given to the growth of
Staphylococcus aureus.
Conclusion: The extract of pineapple ( Ananas comusus ) has an effect as an anti-
bacteria towards the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria on the concentration of 15%
of the minimal hamper degree’s value.

ABSTRAK

Latar Belakang: Indonesia dikenal dengan keanekaragamaan hayati yang


berlimpah, banyak diantaranya termasuk tumbuhan berkhasiat obat sehingga
merupakan potensi pasar obat herbal. Salah satu tumbuhan yang dapat
dimanfaatkan sebagai obat herbal adalah Ananas comosus L.Merr., tumbuhan ini
mengandung vitamin (A dan C), kalsium, fosfor, magnesium, besi, dan enzim
bromelain. Daun, buah dan akar nanas mengandung saponin, flavonoida dan
polifenol. Salah satu bakteri yang dapat menimbulkan infeksi yaitu
Staphylococcus aureus. Lesi yang ditimbulkan oleh bakteri Staphylococcus
aureus dapat dilihat pada abses lesi ataupun jerawat. Suprasi fokal (abses)
merupakan ciri khas infeksi Staphylococcus.
Tujuan: Mengetahui efek antibakteri ekstrak buah nanas (Ananas comucus)
terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus.
Metode Penelitian: Desain penelitian adalah eksperimental laboratorium postest
only control group dengan pengujian aktivitas antibakteri menggunakan metode
difusi agar. Konsentrasi ekstrak buah nanas yang diuji adalah 50%, 25%, 15%,
dan 10% dnegan ciprofloxacin sebagai kontrol positif dan aquades kontrol negatif.
Masing-masing perlakuan direplikasi sebanyak empat kali.
Hasil Penelitian: Ekstrak buah nanas dapat menghambat pertumbuhan
Staphylococcus aureus pada konsentrasi 50%, 25%, dan 15%. Dari hasil ini
diperoleh nilai Kadar Hambat Minimal (KHM) adalah 15%. Hasil uji statistik
menggunakan one-way ANOVA didapatkan nilai signifikan p < 0.05 yang berarti
terdapat perbedaan signifikan pengaruh ekstrak buah nanas yang diberikan
terhadap pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus.
Kesimpulan: Ekstrak buah nanas (Ananas comucus) memiliki efek antibakteri
terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dengan nilai kadar hambat minimal
adalah pada konsentrasi 15%.
