3c Traction and breaking

Braking load shall be taken as 18% of the un-factored vertical Axle loads.

Traction load shall be taken as 20% of the un-factored vertical Axle loads.

Tractive force of one track and braking force of another track shall be taken in the same direction

to produce worst condition of loading.

While checking with Temperature forces, Traction and breaking is taken from RSI analysis. IRS-Bridge

While checking with seismic force, 50% of the full TF/BF is considered as per IRS bridge Rule 2.8.5

3d Centrifugal force

Rule CL.2.5
C = W x V ^2

Centrifugal force is calculated as above equation, acting at 1.8m from rail level as per DBR CL.7.3.4

The Design speeds are also given in the same for radius of curvature

4 Temperature forces

4a Long. Temperature forces, = 60 t

The RSI results are taken based on MEGA-TCAA-VA-EW06-PK01-DOC-01 Rev.0 interpretation

For broken rail condition, half the value obtained by considering 2 broken rails is taken conservatively

However minimum value of 60t due to temperature and 50t due to LL adding to a total of 110t has

been considers for Analysis to cover uncertainties

4b For curved track lateral forces are evaluated as below.

Elastic young modulus = 20000000 t/m2

Area of rail = 0.007686 m2
∆T = 36.500 C˚
α = 1.17E-05 /C˚
No. of rail = 4.000

Strain = 1.71E-03
Stress = 34164 t/m2
Force(F) = 262.58 t/m

Trans. Force for Left span = 262.59/R x Span = 38.01 t

Trans. Force for Right span = 262.59/R x Span = 38.01 t

Total transverse force is maximum of above as one bearing is fixed = 38.01 t Page

5 Seismic Forces

As per RDSO recommendation, for evaluation of time period, soil pile interaction has been considered for seismic analysis.

The soil sub grade reactions for analysis are taken from IS : 2911- 1 -2 2010 , CL 6.5.2-Annex C

The dynamic modulus of 3.5 times the static value is considered for this analysis

The stiffness values are based on the geotech investigation results

As per RDSO seismic guidelines CL 6.6.4, when soil contains different range of soil properties,

higher stiffness values of soil stiffness are used for calculation of time period and seismic forces

while lowest value is used for design

As per MOM of Desig Review meeting dated 17/04/2017, soil type is considered TYPE 1 described in RDSO guidelines

Table 5.

Response reduction factor is taken based on “RDSO guideline on seismic design of railway Bridges” Table 7
The seismic co-efficient is obtained as per CL 7.1 in RDSO guidelines

Wind Load

Wind Loads (longitudinal & Transverse) as given in IRS:Bridge Rules shall be used. However

the height of vehicle (3.9m above rail level) shall be taken as given in

Schedule of Dimensions for Rolling Stock.

For Ahmedabad region, basic wind speed is 39m/sec.

Probability Factor (Risk coefficient)-k1 will be taken as 1.1 (refer equation given in Table -1 of IS:875 (part-3)

for a design life of structure of 120 years.

Vb = 39 m/s

k1 = 1.06

k2 = 1.02

k3 = 1

Vz = Vb x k1 x k2 x k3 = 42.17 m/sec

Pz = .6 x Vz^2 = 1066.82 N/m2

= 0.11 t/m2

IRS Bridge
Rule
Since wind pressure is less than 0.15 t/m2, it is taken with Live load only
