Rhythmic Ostinato – a short, constantly repeated rhythmic pattern throughout the entire piece of music which
creates a new layer of sound on top of the pulse
Rhythm:
• Rhythmic ostinatos usually use quarter and eighth notes and rests
There are 4 beats in every measure. Create two measures that will repeat over and over. Each box is a measure.
Good rhythmic ostinatos keep a steady beat and uses rest in the pattern. Rests are NOT assigned notes.
Make sure that you write the rhythmic ostinato using the tonic and dominant notes.
