Spanish 3 Syllabus

Course: Spanish 3

Course Objectives: Students will continue to build their foundation of


Spanish 2 language skills and further study cultures with emphasis on
expanding vocabulary and improving the skills of reading, writing, and
conversation.

Grading Breakdown: 20% Practice/Participation/Homework, 10%


Interactive Notebook, 70% Standards: Reading, Writing, Listening, and
Speaking.

A: 90-100
B: 80-89
C: 70-79
D: 60-69
F: 0-59

Textbook: Buen Viaje 2

Required Materials: Spiral or composition book for Interactive Notebook,


Paper, Pencils, Spanish vocabulary and grammar sheets handed out in
class. (Students will be asked to keep these as long as they study Spanish
at WHS). These must be on your desk when the bell rings.

Suggested Materials: A Spanish dictionary is optional and can be a


valuable asset in your Spanish studies. Two websites for you to practice
and develop your Spanish language skills are:
1) Quizlet.com—digital flash card maker and practice
2) Studyspanish.com—Review of Spanish grammar, verbs, and practice
Course and Classroom Expectations:
 Arrive to class on time
 Be respectful, safe, and responsible
 Participate in daily classroom discussions and activities
 Keep your hands to yourself
 Give your best effort each and every day

Tardy Policy:
In accordance with the WHS tardy policy:
When the bell rings, you must be in the classroom or you will be given a
tardy slip and a note will be sent home.

Make-Up Work:
Missing assignments may be completed and submitted for full credit
within one week of the due date, and only if the student missed the
assignment due to an excused absence (illness, appointment, planned
absence, emergency, etc.)

Cell Phones:
Cell phone use is NOT permitted during class time unless otherwise
instructed by the teacher for use in an education activity for learning
purposes. If a student is using his/her cell phone during an unauthorized
time, he/she will be asked to take the phone to the office where it will
remain for the rest of the school day. Cell phones must be hidden during
class time.

Leaving the Classroom:


Students will be given 2 hall passes per 9 week grading period. Students
have the option to use these for a pass or tardy excuse or save them
toward improving their 20% participation score each grading period.

Food and Drink: Water in a container with a lid is the only allowed
beverage in class. No food is allowed in class unless it is a part of a
classroom activity.

Assigned Seating: Students will be assigned seats.


Note: We will work bell to bell, meaning that as soon as the tardy bell rings
class will begin. Phones must be hidden, conversations must be ended, and
students’ attention must be on the teacher. Students will not be dismissed
by the bell, they will be dismissed by the teacher. Students will not pack up
early or exit the classroom before the teacher dismisses them.

Assessment:

Proficiency Stage 1 (Novice-Low): Students communicate using


memorized/rehearsed phrases, sentences and questions on familiar topics.
Through language study, they will begin to compare the language and
culture studied with their own.

Listening:
SL.PS1.IL.01: Demonstrate understanding of some words/signs, (phrases,
everyday expressions and simple statements on a limited range of familiar
topics in everyday situations).

Reading:
SL.PS1.IR.01: Identify some common words, symbols, phrases and
cognates from familiar material.

Interpersonal Speaking:
SL.PS1.IS.01 Use memorized words/signs, phrases and expressions in
everyday situations

Writing:
SL.PS1.PW.01 Write symbols/characters, basic high frequency words and
memorized phrases

Presentational Speaking:
SL.PS1.PS.01 Present basic information using common words, phrases,
and everyday expressions

Proficiency Stage 2: (Novice-Mid)


Students use memorized/rehearsed phrases, sentences and questions.

Listening:
SL.PS2.IL.01 Demonstrate understanding of main ideas from short, simple
conversations, narratives and presentations on a limited range of familiar
topics in everyday situations.

Reading:
SL.PS2.IR.01 Obtain information from simple text, often using contextual
cues.

Interpersonal Speaking:
SL.PS2.IS.01 Use memorized phrases, sentences and questions to express
ideas or obtain information on a limited range of topics in everyday
situations.

Writing:
SL.PS2.PW.01 Write from memory some high-frequency words, phrases
and simple sentences and questions.
Presentational Speaking:
SL.PS2.PS.01 Speak to an audience using memorized phrases and simple
sentences
