Many years of genetic research have produced
the Shaver Brown, recognised for its versatility,
reliability, docility and dark egg colour. These
highly favourable genetic characteristics can only
be fully realised when the bird is provided with,
high quality feed, careful appropriate housing
and experienced management practice.
The purpose of this Management Guide is to help the
producer to gain the best possible results for their
investment. This will be achieved by providing conditions
in which the Shaver Brown can thrive. The information
supplied in this publication is based on the analysis of
extensive research and field results, produced over time
and with many years of experience.

We do recognise that over time, many egg producers have


developed their own management programmes, based
on specific housing-types, feed, market conditions, and
other factors. These individual management techniques
will also be the result of experience, and may also work
very well for the Shaver Brown. Therefore do not hesitate
to use your own experience in conjunction with the
guidelines in this publication – and of course, do not
