ABSTRACT
This thesis used descriptive method with qualitative data. The writer used
her interpretation towards the activity of interpersonal communication between
parents and their down syndrome child. The down syndrome child has a mental
retardation, low intelligence signed by lack of intelligence and social interaction.
In accordance with the aim of the research, the writer wants to find out
how the key informant describes this problem. The writer sought the informants
and put them as the secondary data in this research. In the research object, the
writer chose Mr. and Mrs. Hadi, the parents of a down syndrome child, Dani. The
writers have discussed with the teachers of SLB C Sumbersari Bandung where
dani studies who recommend the informants.
The results of the interview analysis conducted by the writer and the
informants can be described as follow: the communication process done by Mr.
and Mrs. Hadi has already running well. As the communicators, the parents were
able to understand the lack of their child, able to bring up the child so the child
could stand up on his own feet although they still kept watching him. In their
interaction, the parents used such polite, simple, and gentle language that their
son, Dani, could easily to understand. The parents let their son free to make
friends with whoever he wants. The barrier in communication with Dani was the
way Dani spoke. He got difficulty in pronouncing words, so that he needed to be
own feet.
