18TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Dear Parishioners,
A CHRISTIAN REVOLUTIONARY
People always and everywhere have
somehow expected a change or
transformation of the world or society for
the better. As such, they have organised
revolutions to do away with systems,
regimes and orders they believe no longer
yield fruit or are no longer beneficial. The
old order must give way to a better one.
Revolutions have often left a lasting impact
on society.
Jesus stands out as a revolutionary. He
teaches his followers a new way of life.
“You have heard how it was said … but I say
to you …” (cf. Mt 5: 38ff). in the second
reading, St Paul tells the Ephesians, “Your
minds must be renewed by a spiritual
revolution, so you can put on the new self”.
This is a call to renewal. In the first
reading, the Israelites faced with difficulties
on the way to the Promised Land, start
looking back to Egypt, the comfort of their
old way of life. “Why did we not die at the
Lord’s hand in the land of Egypt when we
were able to sit down to pans of meat …”
The thought of the “flesh pots” of Egypt
becomes an obstacle to following God and
his will for them – freedom in the Promised
Land.
Old habits die hard. At times, the glamour
and glitter of our evil way of life which has
become habit is difficult to do away with.
True revolution means, conversion from
out sinfulness (flesh pots) and embracing a
new way of life. Letting God’s will be done,
“working for God, doing what God wants”
and not our own wills. St. Paul tells us “You
must give up your old way of life. You must
put away your old self”. This is Christian
revolution. One in which there is no retreat,
no surrender and a battle in which there is
no ceasefire. The Israelites wanted to
retreat. No! Christianity is a full time
commitment.
In our Christian Revolution or battle, if we
are hungry or thirsty we may collapse and
the battle will be over. Jesus offers himself
to us as nourishment for the revolution, “I
am the bread of life, he who comes to me will
never be hungry, be who believes in me shall
never thirst”. He nourishes us with his
word and body for the revolution.
With Christ, we shall conquer ourselves
(weaknesses) and the world. One with him
in mind and heart, we transform ourselves
and the world; overcoming evil with good,
pouring out the bad and filling ourselves
with the good. BE A CHRISTIAN
REVOLUTIONARY!

PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO SANTIAGO
We are planning to go to Santiago de
Compostela for an 8 days walking
pilgrimage at the end of May 2019.
We are still fine tuning the details, but need
to know number in order to do so.
