Section 1 Introduction
Section 1 Introduction
Short Description
The relay module DO930 of the S900 I/O system is designed for triggering valves,
lamps, or similar units. The module has 2 change-over contacts and 4 NO contacts.
The contacts are electrically isolated from each other, the power supply, and the
internal bus.
Compatibility
The DO930 module can be used together will any other S900 I/O module. It is
independent of the hardware or firmware revisions of adjacent I/O modules on the
same termination unit.
However, the DO930 module requires at least firmware revision level 1.5.3. for the
CI920 communication interface. Please refer to the CI920 communication interface
manual or revision information for details about the GSD file version. When
configuring via a DTM the ABB DTM S900-DP revision 2.5.0 or higher is needed.

To the termination unit protection the contact circuits in the DO930 module are
fuse-protected (1AT). If the fuses are blown, the module has to exchange.

Section 3 PROFIBUS DP Communication Configuration
Configuration
Definition
In this context, configuration means arranging the individual I/O modules of a
modular slave and, thus, making changes that have an effect on the structure of
the I/O data telegrams.
3BDD010435R0201 A 15
Parameterization Section 3 PROFIBUS DP Communication
Parameterization
Definition
In this context, parameter setting means defining the properties of already
configured modules.
Since parameter changes do not affect the I/O data structure, the system does not
necessarily need to be recompiled after making changes in the master. S900 allows
to transmit (and receive) a parameter telegram without interrupting cyclic data
exchange. The ABB process control systems, e.g. AC800F, together with S900
support this kind of online-re-parameterization.
Parameterization in Mode 1
Principally this is a module-wise parameterization, i. e. all channels of a module
operate with identical parameters, e. g. "Hold last value in case of error". The
following table details the individual parameters.
Table 3-1 Parameters in parameterization mode 1
Parameter Setting Description
Substitution value min In case of an error all channels assume the
value '0' (open/ NC contact).
max In case of an error all channels assume the
value '1' (closed / NO contact)
last valid value In case of an error all channels assume the
last detected valid value.
Polarity normal All channels operate with normal polarity.
inverted All channels are inverted.
Relay configuration 2 change-over Channels 1 and 2 operate as change-over
contacts contacts, channels 3..6 as NO contacts.
4 NO contacts
4 change-over All channels operate as change-over
contacts contacts. The NO contacts 3+4 and 5+6
are each combined to form one change-
over contact, each.

Section 3 PROFIBUS DP Communication Parameterization
Parameterization in Mode 2
Principally this is a channel-wise parameterization, i. e. the individual channels can
be parameterized separately. The following table details the individual parameters.
Table 3-2 Parameters in parameterization mode 2
Parameter Setting Description
Substitution value min In case of an error the channel assumes the
value '0' (open/ NC contact).
max In case of an error the channel assumes the
value '1' (closed / NO contact)
last valid value In case of an error the channel assumes the
last detected valid value.
Polarity normal The channel operates with normal polarity.
inverted The channel is inverted.
Relay configuration 2 NO contacts Two adjacent channels (3+4 / 5+6) operate
as independent NO contacts.
1 change-over Two adjacent channels (3+4 / 5+6) are
contact combined to form one change-over contact.
Polarity
The polarity parameter facilitates the design of the control system application
independently from the I/O connection. The control system application does not
have to deal with the inverse logic of some sensors/actuators. The desired behavior
is set via the S900 user parameters. Note that the inversion of output data also
influences the substitution values.
Relay Configuration
A special feature of the DO930 module is its changeable relay configuration for
channels 3/4 and 5/6. Both channel pairs can be operated independently as 2 NO
contacts or can be combined to form a change-over contact, as required. This
function is realized via the module firmware.
If the S900 station's power supply should fail, both contacts of the configured
change-over contact remain open.

Output Data
No channel status (status bit) is delivered for output data. Nevertheless, output
channels also have a settable substitution value strategy. All output values of a
module assume the substitution value when
the PROFIBUS master transmits the "CLEAR" command.
the PROFIBUS master transmits the "LEAVE_MASTER" command.
the PROFIBUS master fails (with PROFIBUS watchdog switched on).
the PROFIBUS connection fails (with PROFIBUS watchdog switched on).
the S900 communication interface CI920 fails.

Section 3 PROFIBUS DP Communication Diagnostics/Error Reaction
Diagnostics
The module does not provide channel diagnoses. Module and configuration errors
are reported via the S900 station's status diagnoses.
Error Reaction
The reaction on errors is defined by setting the "Substitution value strategy"
parameter. When setting this parameter to "min. value", the channel assumes the
state '0'. When setting this parameter to "max. value", the channel assumes the state
'1'. Selecting "last valid value" will freeze the channel status and maintain the last
valid measured value.

Section 4 Commissioning Standard PROFIBUS Master
Section 4 Commissioning
Parameterization mode 2 is best suited for advanced master systems and allows for
extensive, detailed parameterization.
After having configured the module, you usually set the module parameters. The
linkage of the I/O data to the application / the program is system-specific. Byte
and word access are possible to load all module channels simultaneously. The
distribution into channels must be performed within the application. As an
alternative, bit-wise access to the I/O data is possible.
3BDD010435R0201 A 23
DTM Section 4 Commissioning
DTM
Using the DTM simplifies the parameterization / configuration procedure. No
manual allocation of the I/O data (mapping) is required. The process control
system must be provided with an interface in accordance with the FDT
specification to permit proper usage of the DTM. Refer to the S900 manual for
details about how to use the DTM. The DTM describes the I/O data according to
the following fixed scheme:
Mxx_Chyy
Channel
Slot
24 3BDD010435R0201 A
Section 4 Commissioning AC870P
AC870P
S900 is integrated in the AC870P system with the DTM. Upon configuration of the
module and closing of the DTM the I/O data are available for channel assignment,
sorted by channels.
Output Data
The output data is accessed via the DODPB function block.
3BDD010435R0201 A 25
AC800F Section 4 Commissioning
AC800F
AC800F with Control Builder F permits to integrate S900 by
importing the GSD file
using the DTM
The import of the GSD file for a remote I/O with complex I/O data structures and
parameters is quite complicated for S900 and can only be performed by an
experienced user. Especially the I/O assignment is time-consuming.
With CBF Version 7.1 and higher the S900 integration via the DTM should always
be preferred, as both the channel assignment in the I/O editor and parameter setting
and diagnostics are much more convenient than with a GSD-based slave.
Output Data
All channels are available as Boolean variables in the I/O editor.
26 3BDD010435R0201 A
Section 4 Commissioning AC800M
AC800M
Hardware Definition (HWD) files are used to integrate the S900 in the AC800M
or Control Builder M. With CBM Version 3.4/3 and higher the DO930 modules is
supported. After inserting the module, the channel assignment is performed via the
"Connections" dialog box. The table (see below) lists all I/O variables. The inputs
and outputs are used as individual bits (Boolean) or linked as byte.
3BDD010435R0201 A 27
AC800M Section 4 Commissioning
Diagnostics
The PROFIBUS module CI854 in conjunction with CBM Version 3.4/3 or higher
allows for access to the S900 diagnostic data. In the CBM the PROFIBUS
diagnosis is referred to as ‘Status’.
