Jupiter in astrology

Jupiter is the most massive planet in our solar system. Its diameter is eleven times that of Earth's,
equaling 88,730 miles (143,200 kms). Its mass amounts to 318 times that of the Earth's, creating a
major gravitational force. Its solar orbital journey takes 11 years, 314 days, 20 hours, 2 minutes and 7
seconds. Its average distance from the Sun is 483.6 million miles (718.3 million kms).

Although Jupiter spends an average of about one year in any zodiac sign, it often spends a
disproportionate amount of time in some of them. Jupiter appears to have more moons than other
planetary bodies, totaling at least 15. After Venus, Jupiter is the brightest planet in the sky. Observed
from Earth, it emits a warm light, so that many hopes and wishes are often connected to it.

In mythology Zeus/Jupiter seeks reason and fairness in disputes. He is benevolent to all who help
others and conform and penalizes those who do not. The mythical deity Zeus/Jupiter does have a
dark side. Vanity is involved in many of his love-affairs, and he may show arrogance, arbitrary delight,
and boundless ignorance. This deity generally insists on preference and privileges.

As the largest planet in the solar system, Jupiter is symbolically related to expansiveness, optimism,
generosity, a love of freedom, and new experiences. The energies of this planet allow you to grow
through impositions and challenges. It also provides a relationship with the universe in the form of
religion and philosophy, and it provides a sense of legal justice--whether manmade or natural. Jupiter
is considered to be the most benefic of all the planets and finds its attachment in the sign of
Sagittarius.

A Jupiter that is challenged can promote arrogance, lawlessness, carelessness, and bigotry. The
placement of Jupiter in a chart can give rise to over-indulgence-in the case of food, it is obesity. Some
of this is reflected in a lack of confidence and/or humility. The key here is to achieve a balance given
all of the energies involved.

A harmoniously placed Jupiter will assist a person to rise above the norm and be able to find success,
not in speculation, but in managing the tasks at hand. The promotion of ideas and a flair for
languages may also be present. Kindness and compassion usually prevail, along with a strong sense
of justice.
