ETHICAL GUIDELINES OF NURSING

There are multiple Ethical Guidelines for nursing in his / her profession:

1) In his/her work the nurse must show respect for the integrity of the patient recognizing that
he/she is an autonomous person with individual needs and choices.

* In his/ her profession, the nurse has an ethical responsibility for people at all stages from life's
beginning to the termination of life

2) The nurse should acknowledge personal and professional responsibility for his/her own
nursing practice and the assessments made in the line of duty.

"The nurse is professionally, ethically, financially, and legally accountable for his/her own
actions".

3) The nurse must ensure that his/her professional practice is up-to date and he/she should
contribute to the development of nursing care.

4) In his/her professional practice the nurse must ensure that the patient’s right of confidentiality
of information is safe-guarded.

5) In his/her professional practice the nurse must exhibit respect for the work of colleagues and
in his/her professional capacity be supportive of colleagues. This does not prevent the nurse from
bringing up violations of the basic principles of professional ethics and loyalty.

{Successful co-operation is dependent on respect and professional loyalty among nurses}.

6) In his/her professional practice the nurse should actively promote cooperation between the
various groups of health professionals.

{If a conflict of interests between groups of health professionals arises during such cooperation,
the life and well-being of the pt. is always to be given top priority}.

7- In his/her professional practice, the nurse should actively promote new approaches in health
care and seek to influence any new health care initiatives through his/her professional nursing
knowledge and skills.

8- It is the duty of the nurse to help ensure that the people trust and respect his/her profession.

{In practicing his/her profession the nurse must help maintain and support the professional
credibility of nurses}.
