Home Minister P Chidambaram, who visited three Games venues, said he was satisfi
ed with the security arrangements but did not have such a feeling with regard to
other aspects related to the sporting event which he refused to specify.
Security must have more than five tier arrangements during the International eve
nts, with rise of terrorism in the current scenario the arrangement should not lo
ok the fortress created in the name of security but must be managed in such meth
odology that it appears an easy go and the undercurrent must have all arrangemen
ts.
Moot question is how it has to be organized, each
venue must be provided with entire electronically gadgets which record the entry
and exit point of each individuals under surveillance at the electronic desk an
d counted vigil at the field too with events volunteers followed by the Intellig
ence officers with with other two tier in dressed security of last two rings.
Home Minister P Chidambaram, said "I am satisfied with the security but not sati
sfied with what others had to do but have not done. It puts extra burden on secu
rity," he told reporters in New Delhi on Wednesday adding these are being sorted
out."I can assure you that notwithstanding the difficulties, we will provide fo
olproof security at Games venues and Games Village," the Home Minister said.
His remarks assume significance as a few countries, particularly Australia, have
voiced apprehensions over the security and asked their citizens to exercise cau
tion.Asserting that adequate measures had been taken, Chidambaram said aerial as
pect is the compliment of foolproof security. He said this when asked about IAF p
utting on alert fighters like Sukhois to prevent any aerial attacks during the G
ames that begin on Sunday and will end on 14th October. He said he did not forese
e any hijack attempt but all preventive mechanisms have been put in place.
Queried whether there was any "credible" intelligence about a terror strike, Chi
dambaram refused to categories the inputs, merely saying that "every piece of in
formation is taken seriously" by the government.Asked whether he was satisfied a
fter his visits to the Games venues, the Home Minister said, "I am never satisfi
ed. Things can always be better.
Home Ministry said adequate security arrangements has been put in place for the
Commonwealth Games and issued a set of guidelines for spectatorâ s just hours ahead o
f the Opening Ceremony."Adequate security arrangements have been put in place in
order to provide security to the sportsperson, officials, spectators, invitees,
volunteers and workforce as well as to the entire city of Delhi,"the Ministry s
aid in a statement on Saturday.
It said that along with the tickets, the Organising Committee of the Commonwealt
h Games has circulated Do's and Don'ts for ticket-holders."While reiterating tho
se Do's and Don'ts, all those who will visit the Games venues should also observ
e the Guidelines," it said.
It asked the spectators to plan in advance taking into account the possible traf
fic in order to reach the venue on time.Every person will be frisked and checked
. The guidelines said it is possible that the flap barrier or the RF reader may
fail sometimes, for a few minutes, owing to technological glitches.
In such a case, the security personnel will do a thorough manual check of the pe
rson, the ticket and the accreditation card and one must be prepared to subject
themselves to the manual check. In addition, every person will be frisked and che
cked. With regard to parking, the guidelines said only a few vehicles or cars wi
th authorised 'vehicle access passes' will be allowed to go up to the designated
points in the games venues.
"If you are travelling by a car with an authorised 'vehicle access pass', you wi
ll be required to alight at a designated point. You must walk the remaining dist
ance to the entry gates."
It said visitors who travel by vehicles which do not have a 'vehicle access pass
' may use the Park and Ride or the Park and Walk schemes. The Ministry also reque
sted asked citizens to use public transport as far as possible.
"The Do's and Donâ ts and these 'Guidelines' will apply to every visitor and there wi
ll be no relaxation and no exception will be made in any case. All are requested
to cooperate," it said.
