A) '3D Printing Workshop - by Scient'

We can organise a 3D printing workshop for the students. This is a currently

trending topic in Mechanical engineering as well as many other interdiciplinary
domains. Many would turn up for the event provided,if we publicize the event. We
can get experts on 3d printing from outside (if feasible) or get good designers
from Mech. department. We can make students to form a group of 2-3.

B) We need a 3D printer, various feed filaments, CAD softwares, Computers/

(Individual Laptops), power cords, projecter to explain to the students, various
cables etc. The most costliest is the d printer. If scient gets a 3d printer on its
own its own, there would be nothing to worry(except for the funding), else we need
to borrow the 3d printer from RMI. We ourselves at scient can build one from
scratch with funding too. But we need it to be professional. Hence the best way is
to get a new 3d printer. Feed material can be of different variety. But we can make
use of the cheapest plastic we can obtain, since it is a training session. Rest all
can be obtained easily.

C) The best incentive we can give the student is to make a keychain with their
own names/initials/logos/icons. I am not sure about the practical implementation of
this idea. (hence my idea might seem crazy). They can even be given refreshments if
feasible. Since students are grouped, we can make 1 key chain per team to reduce
the usage of feed and time duration.

D)Content:
1. Introduction to 3d printing
2. Types of 3d printers
3. Materials with which can be used in 3d printing
4. CAD software installation
5. Explaining the usage of Software
6. Designing the custom object
7. Checking for errors in the designed object
8. Printing the custom objects of students.
9. Further scope of 3d Printing
10. Conclusion of the Workshop

each session will be taking aroud 15-25 minutes and we can have 2-3 breaks in
between for the students to refresh.

Scient Donations:
Scient is still a developing group and it needs funds to reach its maturity.
The possible sources of funds are the admin, the RECAL, current students, NIT's
alumni, and individual donations. Convincing the right person at the right time
needs good efforts with communication skills. We need to publicize the group more
and ask many people to participate as resource users. I hope that the admin as well
as other batches of alumni find the hidden potential admist the group and might
donate more to the group. We can also ask for donations to the users on their will.
We must understand that scient is free to use and shouldnt force the users to pay.
We can make profiles in LinkedIn to reachout to well reknowned alumni to get grants
and funds.
