1.0 WELCOMING ADDRESS BY THE CHAIRPERSON

The Panel Head thanked all the members for their presence. He highlighted that the main
purpose of the meeting is to discuss on the yearly activities which the panel should carry
out to improve the mastery of English Language among teachers and students. He also
welcomes Miss Hariani Harris and Miss Nurfadilah Safwanah who will be helping to
teach English.

2.0 CONFIRMATION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES

 The previous minutes had been suggested by Madam Nurliza Zaunuddin and had been
agreed by Mr Christie.

3.0 DISCUSSIONS

3.1 English activity 2016

It is agreed that English Language Panel plan strategies and programmes that can
enhance the students achievement in all aspects, academic as well as non- academic.

3.1.1 Academic

 The remedial classes for Form 3 and Form 5 students will be continued this
year in order to help the weak students to pass their PT3 and SPM. Whereas,
‘Booster’ and ‘Superscore’ will replace Elit and Near Miss programme.
 Mr. Kelvin informed that teachers should try to minimize the syllabus for weak
students. Teachers can focused more on literature, summary and grammar
rather than essays for exam classes.

3.1.2 Co-academic

It is agreed that the co-academic activities be carried out as stated below.

 English week – will be conducted during the Academic Week on February.

 Mr. Kelvin urges all teachers to think of interesting and new activities to attract
students’ interest and participation.

 Mr. Kelvin hopes all teachers can work together to make this big event a
success. There must be a post mortem after the event as requested by the
principal.

3.2 Tests and Examinations

 Tests and examination – it is agreed that the appointment of co-coordinators and

teacher in charge of setting the examinations question papers for each form as
stated in the handout given. Mr. Kelvin informed that if teacher have difficulty
preparing the papers, they should/ can exchange with other teachers.

3.3 School Based Oral Assessment ( SBOA )

  Teacher still needs to continue with the SBOA as we have not get any information to
stop SBOA.
 Teacher in charge for SPM is Mdm Cecellia. For this year, students need to pass up
their material as evidence. Marks will be recorded twice a year, once in April and
another one in August using the forms provided by the panel.

 Mr. Kelvin response that the certificate of SBOA will be provided for the students
every year.

3.4 Oral Proficiency in English for Secondary Schools ( OPS )

 Mr. Kelvin invites Mr. Christie to explain about the implementation of OPS.

 Mr. Christie told that students are exposes to listening and speaking skill only for the
first six months (Jan-June). Teacher just needs to use the module provided.

3.5 Purchase of Reference Books and Educational Materials

 Mr. Kelvin informed that the panel will purchase the workbooks but there is no
budget yet.
 Mr. Kelvin hopes teachers can suggest and give a list of the books so that he can order
them.

 If there is anything that teachers need, teachers can inform to the panel head.

4.0 ARISING MATTERS

 Mr. Kelvin reminded teachers to tell students to arrange the workbooks nicely on the
rack.
 Mr. Kelvin reminds teachers to take good care of the dictionaries.

 Panel Had decided Wednesday is English Day. Mr Kelvin urges teachers to think of
interesting activity to be held on that day.
