IC Test Plug
Description
The IC test plug is used in the Ingram Cactus IC-2 and IC-6 heads and spools. It utilizes the dovetail style seal. It
is equipped with a 4-1/2” IF tool joint thread in a box top and bottom configuration.
Design Features
Dovetail Seal
• The Dovetail seal is a radially energized elastomer P ip e P lu g
seal used in all IC test plugs.
• The IC Test plug is not designed to be used with 4 L ift L u g s
lockscrews
• It is equipped with a pipe plug and valve removal 4 -1 /2 " IF B o x
plug to accomodate different testing methods.

• dovetail seal is in place and undamaged
• 1/2" pipe plug is installed, if required
• VR plug is properly installed, if required

• all threads are in good condition
3. Orient the Tool with elastomer down and lift lugs up.
4. Make up a joint of drill pipe to the top of the Tool. 1-1/4" LP, VR Plug

5. Wipe the dovetail seal of the Tool.
WARNING: Ensure the elastomer is down and the lift lugs are
up.

NOTE: The IC Test Plug does not require lockscrews to
energize the seal.
8. Slowly lower the Test Plug through the BOP until it lands
on the load shoulder in the Head/Spool.
9. Close the BOP rams on the drill pipe and test to the
maximum rated working pressure of the flange con-
nection.
10. Monitor the annulus valve for signs of pressure. Test Plug

11. After a satisfactory test is achieved, release pressure, RP001887
close the outlet valve and open the rams.
12. Remove as much fluid from the BOP stack as possible. 14. Clean, grease and store the Tool as required.
13. Retrieve the Test Plug slowly to avoid damage to the seal. 15. Repeat this procedure as required during drilling opera-
tions.
NOTE: It may be necessary to open the annulus valve when
starting to retrieve the Test Plug to relieve and vaccume that
may occur.
