Halil Ibrahim Gurcan, December 2015, Contribution of social media to the students’
academic development

Abstract
Social media, throughout the communication world after 2005, has brought about the
transformation of personal and social changes, specifically, among youngsters between the ages
of 13 to 25 who use the social media intensely as a communication tool. Such an effect of social
media is of great significance in terms understanding how they are utilized in courses and how
students benefit from them in their learning processes. In this study, the case of sharing the social
media will be put forward with regard to the relationship of teachers and students, that is to say,
how they carry out their media facilities for their courses and learning/teaching processes will be
under the focus.

This will help our research to know how a teacher can maximize the use of social media in
teaching. This will also help us know the positive and negative impact of social media in the
classroom to the students academically.

Abdulwahaab Alsaif, April 2016, Investigate the impact of social media on students

Abstract

There are a huge number of individuals on the web who are interested to gather information
about others and meet other individuals, to assemble, share data and encounters on many areas
and topics. As a result of this, hundreds of social networking sites have been made, and they
have pulled in a large number of clients in the few short years that interpersonal interaction has
turned into a marvel. The key elements of the social media websites are fundamentally the same,
yet each site attracts variety of clients in a wide range of ways. Many of the social networking
websites aim at gathering huge public, while others draw in individuals based on race, sexual
inclinations, religion, or nationality. The social media websites are additionally different in the
ways in which they appear and join new data and specialized devices, similar to portable access,
blogging, photograph and video sharing [1]. The main aim of this study is to analyze and
evaluate the various impacts of social media on students. Efforts have been done to focus on
most significant impacts with the help of the latest literature review. The detailed study of
literature review revealed that the major factors on which social media has its impact in the life
of students include their academic performance, social behavior, health and privacy issues. The
previous studies have shown that there has been a slight difference in the impacts of social media
on both male and female students. In order to confirm, the major results have been analyzed with
respect to gender as well. Some of the results are similar to previous studies and researches,
while some of the results are contrary to the previous work done in this regard.

This will help our research in determining what attracts the huge number of individuals on social
media and the underlying effects of social media to a child growth and developments

Masood Badri, Ali Al Nuaimi, Yang Guang, Asma Al Rashedi, December 2017, School
performance, social networking effects, and learning of school children: Evidence of reciprocal
relationships in Abu Dhabi

Abstract

This study uses structural equations modeling to test a hypothetical social network model with
applications to a sample of 34,896 school children in Abu Dhabi. The main independent
constructs in the model are related to children’s attitude with regard to social networking,
reasons for using social networks, things done on social networks, and topics used. The
dependent constructs cover perceived school performance and social effects of social
networking. The study will describe the relations among the various constructs. The effect of
other variables, such as parental knowhow, is also investigated. Our work has improved our
insight in the social networking model. Results support the idea of reciprocal relations among
perceived performance, learning from social networking, and the effect of social networking.
Evidence for a model that includes opposite pathways implies that the problem of social
networking constructs, its antecedents, and possible consequences should be examined with
caution.

This will help our research to see if the use of social media really help boost the performance of
students academically or it hinders or distracts their studies. In addition, this research will also
help us determine the social effect of social media to the youngsters.

Stéphane Chaudron, 2015, Young children (0-8) and digital technology

Abstract

Despite the growing number of very young children who go online and who are using a wide
range of technologies, little is known about children’s interactions with those technologies. This
report presents a pilot qualitative study designed and implemented in collaboration with a
selected group of academic partners in different European countries that aims at pioneering in
Europe the exploration of young children and their families` experiences with new
technologies. It presents its results and discuss the findings at cross-national level on how
children between zero and eight engage with digital technologies such as smartphones, tablets,
computers and games; how far parents mediate this engagement and their awareness on the
risks-opportunities balance. The report concludes on recommendations to parents, industries
and policymakers.

This will help children ages 0-8 years to be familiarize themselves with the latest technology
integrated in the classroom. Also, as the technology invaded the young society this will help the
parents to be aware of the positive and negative impact of it to their child so they can guide
their children as they explore the world of technology.
