Each of the practical, project-based tasks outlined below must be undertaken and
completed by all individual participants. Participants should follow the directions of the
trainer (S) and communicate effectively both verbally and / or by signalling with
trainers and other students while completing these tasks and use appropriate
construction terminology.
Each task must be undertaken to comply with the National Construction Code (and
Building Code of Australia), relevant Australian Standards and Industry Codes of Practice.
Participants should also refer to the supplied texts.
Participants must follow the Work Health and Safety legislation, regulations and site
specific policies and procedures. This includes the:

Participants must check the equipment and materials for faults or damage, reporting any
issues to the trainer/assessor (acting as the Site Supervisor).
For each practical task should record and document the type and quantity of all materials
used, and also the time taken to complete each task.
On completion of each task, participants are required to clean and check all tools
and equipment, identify and report any faults, and store in an appropriate location.

Working in pairs and by following the Property/dilapidation survey and risk assessment
, demolish the existing work bays, in the following sequence.

Dismantle frames starting by removing angle braces followed by the top and bottom
plates, studs, lintels and noggings.
You should safely use a shovel, wheelbarrow, sledge hammer, pick, mattock, crow bar and
pinch bar for the given tasks and construction materials and components should be
stacked/banded for mechanical handling in the removal process. Removed components
should be de nailed and be relocated to storage, reuse, or disposal. You should treat the
removal of the external cladding as a simulated asbestos removal exercise and identify any
tools and equipment prohibited for use near identified asbestos-containing materials
(ACM). Also consider the existence of electrical and plumbing service (these must be
disconnected by qualified personal).
Working in pairs, construct the three wall frames identified in the following diagrams.
Construct wall 1 first followed by walls 2 and 3 and then install ceiling frames. Ensure
correct set out and levelling of the project are implemented in accordance with application
requirements for line, level and plumb.
Wall frames must be constructed with 70 x 35 MGP or equivalent and wall studs must be
at 450mm maximum centres. Lintels and ceiling frames must be 90 x 35 MGP or
equivalent and ceiling frames should be a maximum of 600mm centre. These components
should then be located for assembly and stood and held in position for securing with 75 x
3.15 bright nails and gang nails.
Use 16 x 18 mini brace for the bracing.

supplied coach screws. Ensure shelves are installed level.
Sand topping compound of the use of 120 grit sand paper attached to a pole sander and
sanding block.
Measure and cut cornice to size and fix into place with cornice adhesive. Ensure cornices are
installed in their assembled positions accordance with manufacturers specifications and
procedures are applied to ensure no cross-contamination of cornice adhesive.
Ensure tiles are installed in accordance with application requirements for line, level
and plumb. Mix and apply tile adhesive and grout to supplied specification.
Prior to painting remove all door and window furniture and replace after painting
has been completed and has dried.
Remove and replace simulated glass panel and re putty.
Using the supplied FC sheeting line the external wall, overlapping each sheet by 25mm
following application requirements for line, level and plumb.
Select and use appropriate packing material for correct fit and protection of
surfaces during assembly.
Re-place damaged tiles to wall area and simulated floor and re-grout.
and
old bedding should be cleaned and cleared to allow placement of replacement tiles.
Replacement tiles should be selected and cut where applicable to match existing face, size,
colour and pattern.
Under the directions of the trainer(s), construct and fit fly screen to exterior of window.
