Work Center: Work Overview
This Work Center supports the user in getting an overview of his tasks and
alerts at the start of the day, before he embarks on specific tasks in the areas
of people management, budget management, project monitoring, or planning.
Alerts arising as a result of key figures that have exceeded a threshold or rules
to monitor critical variances or postings are presented in a worklist that
directs the manager to detailed information about the source of the problem
(such as a posting that he had not planned for or a cost center that has high
variances).
This worklist also contains tasks arising due to the fact that the manager is
responsible for a number of staff. These include the approval of leave
requests, travel plans, shopping carts, and so on, submitted by his employees.
The work center also provides a reminder of dates, showing the manager
items that he may wish to act upon, such as an employee’s birthday or
anniversary or the end of a probation period for one of his staff.
In addition to these tasks, the work center provides active decision support
with a list of the key figures that the manager has chosen to subscribe to and
an overview of the current attendance figures.

Projects
This Work Center supports the user in handling all tasks relating to
managing a team. The applications typically select all employees
reporting directly to that manager from Organizational Management.
Most importantly, the work center provides access to details about
each employee that the manager is responsible for, including details of
his compensation, skills, and so on, and the ability to start personnel
change requests on the employee’s behalf, such as a change in
working time or a request for promotion. Customers can use the
personnel change requests with minimal adjustments to the workflow
logic to find the request processor or design their own requests using
Adobe Interactive Forms for full flexibility.
In terms of work triggers, the work center provides an overview of the
present attendance from Time Management, a number of overview
reports and a status overview of all personnel change requests and
requisition requests that are in process at the time. Customers can
change the delivered reports to meet their own needs.
The work center provides access to a number of services, such as
approving employee time sheets, initiating a requisition request or
maintaining position requirements. Customers can include their own
self services in the portal content directory, as required.

Work Center: Budget
This Work Center supports the user in monitoring the budget for which he is
responsible. Typically this budget is not assigned to one cost object but
includes one or more cost centers and several projects or orders. Sometimes
there is a separate budget for each expense type.
The work center allows the manager to set rules for monitoring the various
orders and cost centers for which he is responsible. He can thus set a rule that
will alert him whenever a posting is made under a cost element for which he
has not created planned data or when the variances in travel costs exceed a
certain limit on his cost centers. These alerts appear in the worklist (Work
Overview) at the start of the day.
The work center also allows the manager to monitor additional items that
affect his budget, including the costs of assets and equipment assigned to his
cost center.
From each of these applications, the manager can initiate internal service
requests, in order for example to request a correction posting or to dispose of
an equipment that is no longer required. Like the personnel change requests,
these can be customized to meet the customer’s needs. The work center also
includes a status overview of requests in process.
Finally a BW report provides an overview of the cost situation on the
manager’s cost centers. Again, organizations can replace this report with their
own reports to meet their needs.

Work Center: Projects
This Work Center supports the user in monitoring the projects that are going
on in his area of responsibility. It provides access to the key figures for the
manager’s favorite projects, allowing him to see at a glance which projects are
on scope, on time and in budget.
The work center provides access to a number of services, that allow the
manager to monitor the planned consumption on his orders/projects and to
monitor budget depletion on his orders/projects. Like in the budget work
center, he can use internal service requests to request budget transfers or
additional budget for one of his projects/orders. While the project worklist
works only with cProjects, these services can be configured either to display
cProjects and the objects that represent them in the Enterprise Core
Component or to display classic internal orders and WBS elements.

Work Center: Planning
This Work Center supports the user in completing his planning tasks.
Two sorts of planning are supported:
Express Planning
Compensation Planning
For Express Planning, the work center provides a list of the planning
rounds currently in process and an overview of the due dates for
submission of planning data. Technically, these planning rounds are
collaboration rooms and customers can activate additional room parts,
such as frequently asked questions and access to guidelines, as
required.
For Compensation Planning, the work center provides access to the
service. In the case of the higher level manager it also contains a
function to approve the compensation planned by the manager’s direct
reports.
There is also a BW report that provides an overview of the planning
data.

Work Center: Reports
This Work Center supports the user in completing his reporting tasks.
It provides access to:
Balanced Scorecard
Report Launchpad
For customers that have implemented a Balanced Scorecard in SEM-
CPM, the application allows the manager to display individual
elements of the scorecard in his work center. This might provide
access to his objectives for the year and the measures he has defined
to monitor his progress towards these goals.
The Report Launchpad provides access to a wide range of
management reports, including the Manager’s Desktop in Human
Resources, Report Writer in Financials, transactions in the Enterprise
Core Component and Web Templates and Queries in the Business
Information Warehouse. In all cases, it allows the system administrator
to deliver a list of suitable reports to all users in the role “manager”.
Each manager can then rearrange this list to meet his own
requirements, adding his own folders and changing the order of the
reports as he sees fit. The administrator can provide guidance on the
use of each report to meet the needs of this end user group.
