1 Before
tests
commence:-
Y Y

-
notify
the
building
owner
or
agent.

-
if
applicable,
advise
the
fire
control
station.

-
ensure
all
ancillary
facilities
are
isolated.

-
ensure
that
the
lock-off
valve,
if
fitted,
is
closed
and
that
all

extinguishing actuating circuits are isolated.

2 Check the operation of all visual alarm indicators by initiating a simulated fire Y Y
alarm
on
an
alarm
zone
facility.

Record if the fire alarm signal from the alarm zone facility was received at the
fire control station.
3 Check the satisfactory operation of the fire alarm bell. Y Y
4 Check that the fire alarm zone facility is reset to normal. Y Y
5 Check and test each alarm zone facility to confirm its ability to operate the Y Y
master alarm facility.
6 Check that all visual and audible indicators are operational. Y Y
7 Check that all control and indicating equipment is in a clean and operational Y Y
condition and effectively dust sealed.
8 Check all fire indicator panels (FIP),extiguishant local control stations Y Y
(LCS),repeater panels and mimic panels are clearly visible and readily
accessible (see AS 1670).
9 Simulate fault conditions on all alarm zones to ensure that fault indicators, both Y Y
audio and visual, are operating correctly from each alarm zone facility.
10 Check the battery condition by operating the battery test facility for 1 minute and Y Y
record battery condition in the log.
11 Check all extinguishant containers, manual mechanical release mechanisms and Y Y
all other ancillary equipment to ensure they are secure undamaged and
unobstructed.
12 Check
and
record
gauge
pressures
where
applicable.
Y Y
If container pressure loss is greater than 10% of the normal filling
pressure, report to the owner or agent for corrective action.
13 Check the function of all extinguishant manual initiate switches and the Y Y
extinguishant inhibit switch on each LCS.
14 Check
that
all
discharge
nozzles
are
not
obstructed
and
are
correctly
aligned.
Y Y
Conduct a visual inspection of all exposed pipework, support and mechanical
controls.

15 Check that all warning and instruction signs are correctly displayed and Y
unobstructed and that all controls, valves, switches and the like are properly
identified.
16 Check and record the amount of extinguishant in each container by weight or Y
liquid
level,
in
the
following
system
types:

(1)
Carbon
dioxide
systems,by
mass
or
liquid
level.

(Mass
loss
greater
than
10%
is
cause
for
rejection.)

(2)
Inert
gas
systems,by
pressure.

(Pressure
loss
greater
than
10%
is
cause
for
rejection.)

(3)
Halogenated
hydrocarbon
systems,by
mass
&
pressure
or
liquid
level

(Mass
loss
greater
than
5%
or
pressure
loss
greater
than
10%
is

cause
for
rejection.)

(4)
FM-200
systems,by
mass
and
pressure
or
liquid
level.

(Mass
loss
greater
than
5%
or
pressure
loss
greater
than
10%
is

cause
for
rejection.)

(5)
NAF
S-III
systems
by
mass
and
pressure
or
liquid
level.

(Mass
loss
greater
than
5%
or
pressure
loss
greater
than
10%
is

cause
for
rejection.)

17 Check all detectors and sampling points for any condition which is likely to Y
adversely affect their operation, such as dust deposits.
18 Check at least one detector on each alarm zone circuit and confirm that the fault Y
signal
is
registered
at
the
appropriate
alarm
zone
facility.

Check that an alarm on each detector registers on the correct alarm zone facility.
19 Determine
the
sensitivity
of
all
detectors
by:-
Y

(1)
testing
in
situ,
or

(2)
removing
the
detector
and
replacing
with
a
detector
checked
and

calibrated by the supplier.

20 Measure and record the time delay between any detector circuit's initiation of Y
extinguishant release and receipt of the operation signal at the actuators.
21 Check the operation of all remote ancillary control facilities, including, door Y
closers, evacuation warning systems and the like.
22 Check the operation of all mechanical release devices. Y
23 Check the operation of all illuminated signs. Y
24 Check the correct operation of the power supply supervision alarm, if applicable, Y
by disconnecting all power supplies to the FIP.
25 Check control and indicating equipment components for evidence of Y
deterioration.

26 Check and record all container details for compliance with requirements for Y
periodic inspection and pressure testing in accordance with the Standard
appropriate to the container used.
27 Check the operation of non-electrical detection devices and manually operated Y
devices.
28 Check the electrical resistance of actuators and insulation of actuators to earth Y
and
replace
if
appropriate.

Pyrotechnic actuators shuold be replaced as required.

29 Check for correct operation of directional valves. Y
30 Perform a full system function check by initiating detector alarms and checking Y
the response of a container valve actuating circuits at the extinguishant
containers.

This check shall include the operation of the valve actuators, where this can be
done without discharging extinguishant or damaging the actuator,in which case
the
test
shall
be
carried
out
using
a
device
to
simulate
actuation.

Where various combinations of detector circuits can initiate an extinguishant

discharge,each combination shall be checked.
31 Check for building alterations, changes in environment, openings or other factors Y
that
could:

(1)
cause
inadvertent
discharge
of
extinguishant,

(2)
allow
leakage
of
extinguishant
from
the
area,
and

(3) require modification to the system.

32 Check for compliance with design concentration if the building has been altered, Y
verify the enclosure volume and if necessary, conduct a full discharge test.
33 Upon
completion
of
maintenance
:-
Y Y

-
ensure
all
controls
are
returned
to
the
normal
position
and
system

integrity
is
re-established.

-
record
the
results
of
maintenance
procedures
in
the
log.including

all
items
requiring
corrective
action
or
adjustment.

-
check
the
items
previously
recorded
as
requiring
action
have
been

attended
to,or
record
reasons
why
corrective
actions
have
not
been

completed.

-

the
building
owner
or
agent
that
the
maintenance
is

completed and of any items requiring corrective action.
