Course Description
 World Geography is a year long course designed to provide students with a
basic understanding of interrelationships between physical and human
geography.
 Introduction to Geography
o In Geography this year, we will be focusing on geography skills (maps
and atlas), Geography is the study of the earth and all of its people, so
we will get tour the globe ranging from dense rainforests, bleak
deserts, bustling cities, marketplaces, and remote villages. Just to
name a few places. We will touch cultures and religions, population
density, and economic activities of regions.
o We will have a strong focusing on non fiction reading throughout the
course as well. Many activities will involve DBQ’s (Data Based
Questions that come from various types of text.

Major Topics Covered (Semester 1)

 Introduction to the basics of physical and human geography
 United States East of the Mississippi River
 United States Wests of the Mississippi River
 Possibly (if time allows) Canada, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean
Islands, South America

 Europe (Western Europe, Northern and Southern Europe, Eastern Europe)
 Asia
 Australia, New Zealand, Oceania, Antarctica

o Lysol
Evaluation
 Tests, quizzes, homework, and other assingments are assigned a point value.
Nine week and semester grades are based on the following:
o 100 to 90=A 89 to 80=B 79 to 70=C 69 to 60=D 59 and below=F.

Failure to follow these rules will be dealt with appropriately by the teacher.
