Summary

Symptom
This note describes special features when you work with BW functions in a
SCM 4.0 system and the data extraction into an external BW system.

SCM 4.0 consists of several application components (APO, Event Manager,

Inventory Collaboration Hub, ...). You use an internal SAP BW system within
SAP APO. That is, the SAP SCM 4.0 system is considered to be a BW system.
As a result, only one connection, that is one connected client (the BW
standard client) can exist between the SAP SCM 4.0 system and the external
SAP BW system. This situation is described in detail in Note 522569.

As a result, the data extraction from the individual applications, which

may run in different clients, must run via this one system connection of
the BW standard client into the external BW system.

Cause and Prerequisites

An SCM 4.0 system has several clients, the applications run in different
clients and the system is considered to be a BW system since an internal BW
system belongs to the SAP APO-component.
An BW system does not know any clients and there can be only one system
connection to another BW system.

Solution
For the below described solution it is necessary that the
level of the SCM 4.0 system is at least PI_BASIS 2003.1 Patch
1!
The objective is that system connections or data extraction from one SCM
4.0 to an external BW system is possible for each client. However, this is
not possible without restrictions and we distinguish between different
cases:

1. In the SCM 4.0 system you use SAP APO and the functions of the
internal BW system.

In this case you must make the following settings in Transaction

RSSCM_APPL:

APO activated/deactivated: 'APO-capable' = 'X'

Only one system connection can exist between SCM 4.0 and external BW
system. If more than one connection already exist, you must delete these
first before you can activate APO.

Applications and clients:

For every SCM 4.0 application used you can set exactly one client from
which the application data is extracted. It is ensured in the applications
that both for delta initialization and for delta the extraction from other

clients than the client set is prevented.

2. In the SCM 4.0 system SAP APO is not used, but other applications
instead.

In this case you must make the following settings in Transaction

RSSCM_APPL:

APO activated/deactivated: 'APO-capable' = blank

You can now connect several clients to an external BW system.

Applications and clients:

This setting is not relevant and you need not make it. Existing settings
are not evaluated in the applications for the data extraction. Every
application can run in different clients and can also extract data from
these clients via own system connections to the external BW system.
