The rocker shaft bridge has excessive clearance which H/C 4365128
causes the rocker shaft to rotate and make noise. Defect Code: 07405

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Loosen and retorque the rocker shaft bridge bolts.

PARTS INFORMATION
Flange Bolt (Use only if a bridge bolt fails):
P/N 95801-08060-08, H/C 4365128 1. Start the engine, and let it reach normal operating
temperature.
Intake Manifold Cover Gasket:
2. While the engine is idling, listen for a knock or tick.
P/N 17146-R70-A01, H/C 8647315
Use a stethoscope to find the location of the noise.
Intake Manifold Gasket (Accord Only): • If you hear knocking or ticking from either
P/N 17105-RCJ-A01, H/C 7956790 cylinder head, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.
Intake Manifold Gasket (Odyssey Only): • If you hear a noise coming from another location,
P/N 17105-RCA-A01, H/C 7132293 continue with normal troubleshooting.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Remove both cylinder head covers:
• Refer to Cylinder Head Cover Removal in
Section 6 of the appropriate service manual, or
• Online, enter keywords COVER REM, then
select the appropriate item from the list:
- Accord: Cylinder Head Cover Removal J35Z2
or J35Z3
- Odyssey: Cylinder Head Cover Removal
J35A6 or J35A7
NOTE: To ease removal of the cylinder head cover,
remove the power steering pump with its hoses
connected. This allows access to the wire harness
mounting bolts.

2. Starting with the front cylinder head, loosen and
then torque each rocker shaft bridge bolt in the
sequence shown below. Torque bridge bolts 1 thru
8 to 26 N•m (19 lb-ft). Torque bridge bolts 9 and 10
to 24 N•m (18 lb-ft).
NOTE:
• The bridge is designed to crush around the
rocker shaft, so when torquing the bolts it may
initially feel like the bolt is stripped. This is
normal; continue torquing bolts until the
appropriate torque value is reached. Do not
replace the bolt, bridge, or the head.
• Do not over-torque the bolts. If you do, they may
break and would need to be replaced.
• The bridge bolts for VCM and V-TEC engines
have the same torque values and tightening
sequences. Only VCM cylinder heads are shown
in the illustrations.

3. Repeat step 2 on the rear cylinder head.

4. Check the valve clearances, and adjust them if
needed:
• Refer to Valve Clearance Adjustment in Section
6 of the appropriate service manual, or
• Online, enter keywords VALVE CLEARANCE,
and select the appropriate item from the list.
- Accord: Valve Clearance Adjustment J35Z2
or J35Z3
- Odyssey: Valve Clearance Adjustment J35A6
or J35A7
5. Reinstall the cylinder head covers:
• Refer to Cylinder Head Cover Installation in
Section 6 of the appropriate service manual, or
• Online, enter keyword COVER INS, then select
the appropriate item from the list.
- Accord: Cylinder Head Cover Installation
J35Z2 or J35Z3
- Odyssey: Cylinder Head Cover Removal
J35A6 or J35A7
6. Reinstall all removed parts.
7. Start the engine, and let it reach normal operating
temperature. Make sure the noise is gone.
