WISHES NEWSLETTER /2
September 2010

Editorial
Dear colleagues and friends of the WISHES project,

warm welcome to the second edition of the WISHES

newsletter. WISHES stands for Web-based Information
Service for Higher Education Students. As an online
platform the WISHES Mobility Portal offers European
higher education institutions (HEIs) and employment
bodies an effective recruitment and networking tool
to promote their offers free of charge to high potential
students all over the world.

In WISHES we are currently in a crucial stage of our

project: After having enabled the first 150 institutions to
provide their information directly into our system, we are
now getting ready to launch WISHES for students this
autumn.

Thus, in case you are still thinking about joining our WISHES project, this newsletter will highlight
why now it is the right time to do so. In case you already joined our European project, in the following
pages you will find short updates on our latest and future activities.

Enjoy the reading!

Background of the WISHES Project

WISHES stands for Web-based Information Service for Higher Education Students. As a European
Project, WISHES is co-financed within the Action 4 of the Erasmus Mundus Programme. Supported
by over 150 higher education institutions, European associations and networks, WISHES sets
up a user-driven, high quality and multi-professional web-platform. This WISHES Mobility Portal
promotes European study and work offers tailored to the expressed needs of 4.000 students. In
conclusion, our mobility portal does not only result in the best fit between the involved target groups.
It also enables European higher education institutions and employment bodies to effectively attract
international students and recent graduates – worldwide and free of charge.

If you are interested in benefiting from our intelligent recruitment and networking tool WISHES, please
find further information online or get in touch with us directly.

WISHES release for higher education institutions

In mid May 2010 we officially launched our WISHES Mobility Portal for higher education institutions.
Affiliated to the European Capital of Culture Programme within our WISHES Networking Days
2010 (NWD 2010) we did not only present our portal for the first time to the public. Additionally,
during our two days meeting, all participants were able to further increase their knowledge about
our intelligent recruitment and networking tool by means of a hands-on training session. Following
this official launch, all WISHES supporting institutions received personalized logins and started to
promote their institutions in WISHES.

In case you are interested in effectively promoting your institution and its offers in WISHES,
you can still join our network. Therefore, please get in touch with us by means of our online
contact form.

WISHES Network exceeds 150 Supporting

institutions
Backed up by plenty of support – received for instance from Ministries of Education, National
Agencies, Rectors’ Conferences and similar – our WISHES Network has by now exceeded the
150th supporting institution; 50 further institutions expressed their interest to join our network in
the near future. This increase of supporting institutions however would not have been possible
without the dedicated commitment of numerous individuals and institutions. To recognize the huge
role played by these individuals and institutions concerning the growth of our network the WISHES
Award has been initiated. Now, during the ERACON 2010 the first edition of this WISHES Award
has been awarded to the Lithuanian Academy of Physical Education from Kaunas, Lithuania
acknowledging their extraordinary commitment to promote WISHES – in Lithuania and beyond.
Once again, congratulations and a heartfelt thank you all for that!

Designed by the Tomas Bata University in Zlin the WISHES Award consists of an arrow sculpture
made from pure crystal with the dimensions of 15 cm x 5 cm x 2 cm and comes along with a framed
certificate. May this Award be another step to ensure our young yet utmost ambitious project to
become a long lasting and thus sustainable success for all of us.

WISHES launch for international students

Currently we are preparing the first launch of WISHES for international students. Closely relating
to the start of the new semester, we offer all incoming international students of our supporting
institutions a special service in WISHES: In close collaboration with diverse student associations,
and shortly before meeting personally in their new surroundings, your incoming students are
offered the possibility to have a first virtual contact within our WISHES Mobility Portal – with local
and other international students. As a result, your incoming students do not only receive important
information, they will also be able to build up contacts with other peer students – even before their
arrival to their new campus.

Further support for WISHES

supporting institutions
The quality of information provided about your institution and its offers will have a huge impact
on the overall success of your presentation in WISHES. Therefore, we are continuously offering
various ways to receive further and first hand information about how to use WISHES effectively –
for instance:

Open Training: On 8th of September 2010 an Open Training was offered in

Hogeschool-Universiteit Brussel in Brussels, Belgium. This Open Training does not
only comprise of an introductory session to WISHES, but also a hands-on training session.

Online Support: All supporting institutions have access to our WISHES online support
pool. Within this pool questions and answers can be found as well as a way to directly
state a question to the WISHES team.

WISHES Promo Pack: To promote WISHES towards your partner institutions and your
students, we will provide you with a WISHES promo package in the October 2010.

If you have any suggestions regarding which kind of support would be helpful for you, please do
not hesitate to get in touch with us.

WISHES presented within NAFSA 2010 and ERACON 2010

WISHES actively participated in two major international conferences on higher education mobility:
The NAFSA Conference 2010 (30th of May – 4rd of June, Kansas, USA) and the ERACON
Conference 2010 (1st of July – 5th of July 2010, Vienna, Austria). Within these conferences we
consequently continued to “build the net of WISHES” by presenting our project within various
sessions and uncountable personal meetings. Additionally, we also used this chance to catch
up with plenty of our supporters, and successfully established further contacts towards various
National Agencies, Bologna Experts and other international multipliers. Additionally, our WISHES
Circle Event held one day prior to the ERACON 2010 in Vienna, has been a tremendous opportunity
to provide the present institutions in-depth with first hand information about both our project and
our portal as well as to personally discuss the WISHES project in detail.

Reaching for the STARS: WISHES follow-up

project STARS
Due to the positive feedback and plenty of inspiration received in our current project, in April 2010
we submitted another Erasmus Mundus Action 3 project proposal to extend the scope of our
WISHES project. STARS stands for Service-oriented and Tailor-made Assistance in Research and
Science and aims at setting up a cooperation portal for higher education institutions to facilitate the
initiation of new European cooperation by means of Information and Communication Technology.
Many thanks to all of you who have contributed to this proposal – in one way or another!

As a growing network increases the benefits for everyone involved, please feel free to continuously
present, discuss and talk about our joint Erasmus Mundus project – whenever and wherever
possible: Might it be international conferences, national Erasmus Mundus / Lifelong Learning Info
Days, institutional staff training events, international weeks or similar! A WISHES promo pack to
facilitate such activities will be provided upon request. Thank you.
