Notes:
i. “Y:\ETAP 55X” is the drive and
folder where ETAP program was
installed and “X” refers to the
point release version of ETAP. If 4.b
ETAP was installed on the default
location, the drive and folder is
“C:\ETAP 55X”.

“etaplib55X.lib” library file.
iii. You may create a copy of the
“etaplib55X.lib” file using the
“Windows Explorer” program and
work on the copied file to preserve
the default library file. 4.c
iv. You may also create a new library
file instead. To do so, from the
main menu, select
“LibraryÆCreate”. Browse to the
folder where you want the library
file to be located and enter the
desired filename. Then, you may
merge this library later with the
other libraries.

Notes:
i. “Y:\ETAP XXX” is the drive and folder where the ETAP program was installed and “XXX” refers to the version of ETAP. If ETAP was
installed on the default location, the drive and folder is “C:\ETAP XXX”.
ii. The new data will be added to “etaplibXXX.lib” library file.
iii. You may create a copy of the “etaplibXXX.lib” file using the “Windows Explorer” program and work on the copied file to preserve the
default library file.
iv. You may also create a new library file. To do so, from the main menu, select “LibraryÆCreate”. Browse to the folder where you want the
library file to be located and enter the desired filename. Then, you may merge this library later with the other libraries.

z Underlined values are default settings.
z NON setting disables protective functions. If the short time delay trip function and the instantaneous trip (or MCR) function are set to NON, however, the fail-safe operates so
that:
• The instantaneous trip function is activated at [In] × 16 or more if the short time delay trip function and the instantaneous trip function are set to NON.
• The short time delay trip function is activated at [In] × 10 or more if the short time delay trip function and the MCR function are set to NON.
z A pickup current means the threshold by which the OCR determines whether or not an overcurrent occurs. When the current flowing through the OCR exceeds the pickup
current setting provided that [IR] x 1.05 < pickup current setting d [IR × 1.2, the OCR starts counting the time for tripping. Once the current flowing through the OCR reduces
to less than the pickup current setting, time count is reset.
*1: A change in rated current setting results in changes in long time delay, short time delay, instantaneous, and pretrip alarm pickup current settings accordingly.
*2: The ground fault trip pickup current setting should not exceed 1200A.

ETAP TIP – No. 013

Display the Curve of a Phase Overcurrent Device in a Ground
Time-Current Curve (TCC) Plot
Applicable ETAP Versions: 6.0.0
(For lower versions, some of the descriptions and procedures below may differ in some ways)

Sometimes it is desirable to show the phase overcurrent (OC) element of a certain protective device in a Ground TCC
plot to ensure that coordination is met against the ground OC element of another device. For example, in a Delta-Wye
solidly secondary grounded transformer, the ground relay at the secondary side must be coordinated with a phase relay at
the primary side since the primary side phase OC element sees a fraction of the ground fault current at the secondary
side.

The plot shown in Fig. 1 is a Ground TCC

plot. The ground OC curve of OCR3 and
OCR4 relays are shown. Doing the 3.b
following steps will show the phase OC
curve of the OCR3: Ground Mode

1. Click the “Plot Option” icon on

the “Star View TCC” toolbar or right-
click anywhere inside TCC plot area
and select the “Plot Option..” in the 1
pop-up menu. See Fig. 1 1

2. On the “Plot Option” dialog window,

do the following steps (see Fig. 2):
a. Click “Devices” tab.
b. Double-click “OCR3” node in the
tree
c. Click “Phase” node
d. Click “Preferences” tab
e. Check “Ground Mode”
f. Click “OK”
3. See Fig. 3, the OCR3 phase
overcurrent element is displayed.

Note: The suffix appended to the ID of a multi-function relay indicates the type of the element
that is shown on the TCC. For example “OCR4-N”, the “N” indicates that the curve is the
“Neutral” element of OCR4 relay.
