This article tells about the renovation of Alabang Town Center. The mall was said to be the second
home of the people in Alabang since 1970’s. It says that the Alabang Town Center doesn’t just serve
the community. It is the community itself. Why? Because the mall was older, it has been one of the
most destination of the people in the place since then. In addition, this mall is also near two famous
church which is, St. Jerome Emiliani and Sta. Susana Parish Church. It causes the mall to be always
crowded until now. It is dangerous too because the mall is now old and cannot really accommodate
that amount of people. So, they decided to renovate this, also to make this town center competent in

Landera Shopping Center, Paolo Alto, Calif.

By L. Carl Fiocchi, Jr.

Gist

This shopping center echoes the character of its environment, upscale residential, which strives to
maintain its rural quality. It also uses the traditional materials and strategies in the place such as wide
spreading wood-shingled roofs, informal groupings of three low buildings, and rustic character
expressed by exposed wood construction with either glass or redwood board and batten infilling
contribute to the effect.

The plan of this center is based on the idea that the shopper is a pedestrian by making a covered walk
and providing a large walkway that no cars can enter only for the shoppers. This mall also survived
nearly fifty years in basically intact forms because it incorporated traditional elements of the language
of architecture.

Critique

This case study gives the researcher an idea to harmonized the project with its environment to make it
easy for users to adapt in the place. It also provides the researcher an idea to make the shopper as a
pedestrian since the place is too crowded and has too many cars, jeeps and etc. to the point that it
causes traffic. And Divisoria is known to be one of the old shopping center. It is important to maintain
its stability; the case study provides the researcher to have an idea how to make the building intact for
many years.

SOLUTION MODEL FOR URBAN TRAFFIC CONGESTION: EGYPTIAN CASE STUDY

By The American University in Cairo, Egypt

This case study is about analyzing the root of traffic congestion in Egypt through developing and
implementing the collection of traffic data, diagnosis of the congestion problems in terms of social,
commercial, cultural, and behavioral aspects. The analysis of the data finger points out the flag areas
by conducting total and peak traffic volume counts, simulation of the existing traffic conditions to get
the delayed travel times of vehicles in that area. The analysis of the output would finally help decide
whether such problem would be solved by geometric adjustments of the surface or the problem
requires a multi-layered intersection.
Critique

This case study provides the step by step process on how to analyze the traffic congestion and what is
the complete procedure on how to solve it properly. This will help the researcher to know the system
and routine inside Divisoria following this process such as knowing the urban characteristics, the

By Rohit Kumar

This thesis is a commercial- cultural center that means to let the culture stay in the place. It is
composed of Case Studies and the Design process of making the center. The case studies shown has
site plan and circulation images that is important in planning the center. It also has features that will
be good for the project like excellent segregation of pedestrian and vehicular movement. Design
process has the problem, detail space requirements with percentage, site analysis, design solution, and
the outcome.

Critique

This thesis provides the researcher an idea to make the project still adapt the culture of the place. It
also provides the researcher a set of ideas on how to plan good zoning such as providing spaces not
only for shopping but also for recreational, services, office, and hotel. Since most of the people travel
here to shop it is good providing those for their and comport and rest. It also gives the researcher an
idea to have a hierarchy each shopping building because Divisoria has ambulant vendors everywhere.
There are stalls with a very low price and quality, there are stalls with a medium product and there are
stalls with a bit higher in others but still earns.
