RATIONALE

Several Community Extension activities had been conducted in the GK Namnama

Village however, the participants both from NWU and the Community were not comfortable
because the venue were not conducive. Activities were conducted under the salaysay tree, and
in one of the vacant housing units but not so spacious and the ceiling was very low, thus it was
very hot.

Partners in community development (GK Community Development Foundation , Inc

and the Community Beneficiaries) were then informed of the feedback from the participants of
the implemented extension activities and it was decided during one meeting that the unfinished
building south of the basketball court is to be continued and become a Multi-Purpose Hall.
Funding came from the French students brought by the GK Community Development
Foundation for Community immersion. NWU-CEAT volunteered to help in the construction
of the Multi-purpose hall by sharing the expertise of the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
Students while NWU Administration supported the project by lending Welding machine and
scaffolding, budget and transportation for the purpose.

Any type of arc welding involves high voltage and amperage electricity which can be
dangerous thus it is being feared. It is for this reason that only few female students take up the
course/subject in SMAW. However now a days there are already female welders who are
working here and abroad. In response to CHED Memo 2015-01 “ Establishing the Policies
and Guidelines on Gender and Development in the Commission on Higher Education and
