MOSQUITOS – For the past few weeks we’ve been experiencing more adult

mosquitoes due to heavy rains coming after a long drought resulting in flood
plain mosquitoes eggs, that have been dormant, erupting. GDG installed 15
traps to reduce the adult populations and get a better understanding of what
happened. I am concerned that their work has not kept up with this new
infestation so I’m meeting with them this week and will report back in a
future edition of this paper. In the meantime please report any problem to
GDG so they will know where to find the new areas which have larvae.
Email GDG at info.mosquito@gdg.ca or call 1-877-227-0552 and they will
respond to you and do a local field check.

“MARIANNE ‘S MOVING ON” GALA will celebrate my 50 years in Kanata

serving the community as a volunteer and elected representative. However
I’m not stopping but gaining the time needed to concentrate on community
issues, focusing first on the creation of a Health Hub in Kanata. Funds raised
at the Gala are going in a fund to cover costs of getting this underway. It is
a long process but with the help from local health providers, a team is in
place to get the process started. Be a part and join me at the Gala on
November 20 at the Brookstreet Hotel. Sponsorships and Corporate Tables
are available from my office and individual tickets at $150 per person are
now available on Eventbrite. More information is on my website.

820 HUNTMAR DRIVE an urban expansion area, presently in the rural

ward of West Carleton March, has undergone a design plan and that has led
to an application for an Official Plan Amendment (OP) by the owner,
Richcraft. We’ve had several public meetings on a potential plan. The OP
designates part for urban development. It is tentatively proposed to be at
the Planning Committee on September 11, 2018. Information is on
Ottawa.ca/devapps for Ward 5.

AMO – This week I’ve been at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario,

where I was President in 1985, to meet with colleagues and development
municipal positions on areas of concern to municipalities. Learning from
others and networking with colleagues helps me to be a more effective
municipal councillor.

GOULBOURN FORCED ROAD (GFR) CLOSURE has been extended due to

complications in the work to install a water main and construct parts of the
road. I’ve asked that as soon as it is safe to permit traffic, while
construction is being finished, the road needs to be opened. I’ll report on
progress as I get updates. KNL Lands are about to undergo development,
with stripping of soil first, followed by blasting for service installations and
road construction. Access by large machines will be done from the GFR and
may require closure of the pathway along the north side of the Beaver Pond
for safety reasons.

SCHOOL’S BACK SOON so watch for school buses and children walking and
cycling to school. Some families can’t afford the school supplies their
children need so the Kanata Food Cupboard collects donations for them. See
details at www.kanatafoodcupboard.ca/.

PARK AND BIKE – I have been speaking up for residents who want to use
parking spots in parks, that are empty during working hours, to park and
then cycle a shorter distance to work. The City Transportation Committee is
supporting the concept but first wants a staff report on how and where it
could be implemented across the city. Watch for their report in early 2019
that can meet a demand at no cost to the City.

Terry Fox Drive - From Wednesday, August 22 until Friday, September 28,
there will be intermittent lanes closures on Terry Fox Drive from Didsbury
Road to Campeau Drive to allow for construction. Lane closures will be
limited to off-peak and overnight hours.
