Two Way Communication System and Line Walk

In addition to several existing safety communication system e.g. Tool box meeting, Safety Mass
meeting and Safety Committee meeting, a system for two way communication (Top – Bottom –
Top) between our leadership and their workforce.

The line walks are organized once in every month. The Contractor Proprietor along with the Line
Manager, Head of the department walks through a work site to demonstrate safety and
communicate with the workers, listen to their suggestion and feedback for further improvement in
the field of health and safety. This will reduce the differences between expectation and actual safety
conditions.

The records, photographs of line walk are maintained in a register.

Matrix for measurement

1. Number of safety audit done by Contractors proprietor/partner/owner in a month along with


line manager.

2. Attendance in safety committee meeting.

3. Feedback and review meeting with Line Manager in a month.

4. Line walk with Head of department in the contractors working area.

Necessity of Two Way Communication System

Exchange of facts, thoughts, opinions or emotions, it means nothing but two-way communication.
Now a days two-way communication is given very importance in establishing:-

01. Dynamic Process: In two way communication, information or message is sent to the receiver or
listener from sender. After receiving of message, there is feedback or response to the sender. This is a
dynamic process.
02. Implementation of Direction: Two way communication acts as a bridge which connects source and a
destination i.e. managers and subordinates or employer and employees.

03. Job Satisfaction: This helps managers to motivate the employees in terms of financial or non-
financial activities. Such motivation raises job satisfaction which leads to achievement of Organizational
goal.

04. Better Relations: Due to two way communication, relation is created, maintained and gradually
improved.

05. Providing Suggestion: In two ways communication, subordinates and seniors both can get
feedback regarding different aspects of job as and when required. Suggestion rectifies errors / mistakes
and helps in completion of job.

06. Creation of Democratic Environment: In two way communication, democracy is the main focus
through which receiver and sender both look forward. When there is democracy, people have freedom
and independence and as a result, employee and employer both can exchange ins and outs of any
respective job.

07. Complete and Effective Communication System: Communication is made to solve any problem, to
understand any fact, to implement any job, to create better relationship and others. Such
communication becomes complete or effective when sender and receiver both share the message or
information.

08. Accuracy of understanding: If information which is sent to the desired receiver contains any
vagueness or confusion, it is difficult to understand the actual meaning of the message. To solve this
problem two way communication is the effective one.
