How Much Is Enough – 30 Days to Personal Revival

Lesson 4 – Kingdom Perspective on Treasure

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust destroy, and
where thieves break in and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where
neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your
treasure is, there will your heart be also. The lamp of the body is the eye; if therefore
your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole
body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is
the darkness! No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the
other, or he will hold to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
Matthew 6:19-24

 Two Treasures
 Earthly – v. 19
o Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and
silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your
flesh like fire. (James 5:2-3a)
 Heavenly – v. 20
o For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory
that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on
what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is
eternal. (2 Cor. 4:17-18)
 Uncorrupted Perspective
 Two Visions
 Bad – v. 23
o Help, LORD, for the godly man ceases to be, For the faithful disappear
from among the sons of men. They speak falsehood to one another; With
flattering lips and with a double heart they speak. (Psalm 12:1-2)
o A stingy man is eager to get rich and is unaware that poverty awaits him.
(Proverbs 28:22)
 Good – v. 22
o I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. All
these things have I given willingly and with honest intent. (1 Chron. 29:7)
 Unimpaired Morality
 Two Masters
 Money
o For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for
money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many
griefs. (1 Timothy 6:10)
 God
o We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts. (1 Thess
4:2)
o Instruct those who are rich in this world's goods that they should not be
proud and should set their hopes not on money, which is untrustworthy,
but on God who gives us richly all that we need for our happiness. (1 Tim.
6:17, NJB)
 Undivided Commitment
