    IS 1489 (Part 1): 2015 (4th Edition) - Indian Standard Portland Pozzolana Cement (Fly Ash based)-Specification. Some important updates are as follows. (1) The PPC is marked as 33 grade cement (there are no specification for higher grade of cement in ppc). (2) Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) to have strength equivalent to that of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) 33 Grade (IS 269: 2015 sixth revision) cement. (3) The Fly ash constituent shall not be replace less than 10% and not more than 35% by weight of OPC of any grade cement. According to IS code you can replace portland cement by max 35% of fly ash content. (4) Many people tried replacing opc with 50% or more using fly ash - it termed as high volume fly ash concrete (HVFC). Do trials of concrete mix designs before using it for actual work. This is not recommended by BIS nor conforming by any of its code till today. This may keep changing.

    1 SCOPE
    This standard (Part 1) covers the manufacture and chemical and physical requirements of Portland
    pozzolana cement using fly ash as pozzolana.

    2 REFERENCES

    The standards given in Annex A contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute
    provisions of this standard. At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid. All standards are
    subject to revision and parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to investigate the
    possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated in Annex A.
