This course includes engineering techniques of power system analysis used in the electrical power
industry. It makes the students familiar with electrical power system industry. This course deals with
load flow studies, power system stability, fault analysis, economic dispatch of power systems,
automatic voltage and frequency control, which are useful for various research areas in power
system.
Pre-requisites:Nil
1. To model power system components with the knowledge of per unit quantities.
2. To solve economic load dispatch problems.
3. To understand the need for load flow analysis and different method
4. To model the automatic generation and voltage control system.
5. To model and analyze the power systems in faulted conditions based on symmetrical
components and sequence networks.
6. To perform stability analysis of the power system.
4. Course Outcomes
After the completion of this course, students should be able to:
CO1: To model three phase power network using single line diagram, impedance diagram and bus
admittance matrix.
CO2: To determine state of the power system using different load flow algorithm.
CO4: To identify the methods of voltage control and automatic frequency control.

Regular class attendance is strongly advised for students to fully grasp many of the
course concepts.
Please be on time to class.
If you miss a class session, it will be your responsibility to find out the materials that
were covered. Lectures introduce you to the concepts covered by this subject, provide
motivating examples to help you understand them, and demonstrate skills and processes.
You may not understand the material completely simply by listening in lectures. You
should also:
review the lecture material after the lecture;
discuss the material with fellow students if possible;
read up on the topics covered in each lecture;
complete relevant assignments and exercises, if any;
consider exploring the topic on-line
attend a consultation session (or phone or email) if you still don't understand the
material
Students in attendance are expected to be active participants in the course. This
participation includes contributing to class discussions, providing insight into the
class discussion topics, raising questions, and relating class material to personal
experiences and other course topics.
It is expected that the students taking the course have the integrity not to cheat. To be fair
to the vast majority of honest and hard-working students, the institute policies on
cheating will be rigorously enforced.
