The Organization shall establish, implement, control and maintain the processes
needed to meet EMS requirements, and to implement the actions identified by:
— establishing operating criteria for the process(es);
— implementing control of the process(es), in accordance with the operating criteria.
The type and extent of control or influence to be applied to the process(es) shall be
defined within the EMS.
Organization’s influence on outsourced processes (products and services supplied by external providers)
is varying from:
no influence - limited influence - direct control
Some of the organization’s significant environmental impacts can occur during stages:
• the transportation & delivery;
• use;
• end-of-life treatment or final disposal of its product or service.
b) determine the environmental requirements for the procurement of products and services, as
appropriate;
d) consider the need to provide information about potential significant environmental impacts
associated with the transportation or delivery, use, end-of-life treatment and final disposal of its
products and services.
Steps:
• prepare to respond by planning actions to prevent or mitigate adverse environmental
impacts from emergency situations;
• respond to actual emergency situations;
• take action to prevent or mitigate the consequences of emergency situations, appropriate to
the magnitude of the emergency and the potential environmental impact;
The organization shall maintain documented information to the extent necessary to have
confidence that the processes are carried out as planned.
• mitigation and response actions to be taken for different types of accident or emergency
situations,
• need for processes for a post-accident evaluation to establish and implement corrective and
preventive actions,
• periodic testing of emergency response procedures,
• information on hazardous materials, including each material's potential impact on the
environment, and measures to be taken in the event of accidental release,
• training plans and testing for effectiveness,
• process for post-accident evaluation to define corrective and preventive actions.
