Optional: Using an iron, apply interfacing to the
wrong side of the two MAIN pieces, two YOKE
pieces, and the strap.
Mark pleat lines on the wrong side of the MAIN
pieces with a fabric marker.
Cut two 1.5" squares from interfacing. Iron/sew
to the wrong side of the LININGS at the center of
each, ½" from the top.
Attach magnetic snap to the LINING pieces,
centering snap halves on the interfacing squares.

All seams are sewn with a ¼" seam allowance
and with fabric right sides together unless
otherwise noted.
1. Fold each MAIN piece at pleats, matching
pleat lines. Check that the width of the pleated
edge is the same as the lower edge of the YOKE
piece; adjust if necessary. Pin the very top of
each pleat to hold it in place, then baste across
the pleated edge to secure.
2. Attach piping (optional): Line up the raw edge
of the piping with the lower edge of the yoke,
then sew directly over the stitching line of the
piping (approx. ¼" from edge) with a basting
stitch. Repeat for the other yoke.
3. Sew the lower edge of the yoke to the pleated
edge of the main piece with a ¼" seam. Press
the seam toward the yoke, topstitch close to the
seam if desired. Repeat for other yoke/main.
4. Sew the
two halves
of the main
bag together
around the
outer edges
and bottom
only.
5. Prepare
pocket: Fold the POCKET piece in half, right sides

together. Sew along the three open edges,
leaving 2" unsewn at the bottom of the pocket.
Clip the corners and turn the pocket right side
out. Press, tucking the edges in at the opening.
6. Place the pocket in the center of one LINING
piece. Edgestitch around the sides and bottom
of pocket, sewing the opening shut as you go.
7. Close the
snap and
sew the
lining pieces
together
around the
outer edges
and bottom open
only, leaving
a 4" opening
(3" for small)
at the bottom.
8. Prepare strap: Press ¼" under along the two
long edges of each rectangle. Fold in half wrong
sides together and press. Edgestitch both long
edges ⅛" from the edge to finish the strap.
9. Align the ends of the strap with the top edge
of the main bag, centering strap ends over side
seams. Baste straps to bag ⅛" from edge.
10. Turn the lining inside out. Place the main bag
inside the lining, right sides facing, with the top
of the bag even with the top of the lining. Pin
together.
11. Sew the lining and the main bag together
around the entire top of the bag. Turn the lining
right side out using the opening in the lining, then
tuck the lining inside the bag and press the top
seam.
12. Tuck edges inside the lining opening and
stitch shut.
13. (Optional) Topstitch around the top edge of
the bag.
