2018-2019

Grade 7 Immersion Active Healthy Living

I am pleased to be working with you as we explore the Grade 7 Active Healthy Living
program. This course will offer all students’ opportunities to acquire the knowledge, skills
and attitudes required to enhance their quality of life through active, healthy living.

The Active Healthy Living class is designed to nurture in each student the development of
personal well-being, interests, and aptitudes. This class also helps students to understand
the physical, social and emotional changes that characterize adolescence.

We will be covering many possibly sensitive issues and it is expected that you come to class
prepared and ready to participate in the discussion topic in a mature matter. These topics
will be introduced, discussed in class and studied using proper terminology. Clear rules will
be set and enforced during discussions of a sensitive nature so all students will feel
comfortable during class time.

Course Objectives

The Grade 7 Active Healthy Living Course will be divided into the following 4 sections.

 My Body, Myself
 Lifestyle Choices
 Healthy Relationships
 Citizenship

Course Assessment

I will use a variety of methods of assessment in Active Healthy Living this year. These may
include but are not limited to: checklists, observations, tests, quizzes, assignments, rubrics,
class discussions, portfolios, projects and self/peer assessment.
Classroom Guidelines

 Students are expected to participate in class and actively engage in their own
learning.
 Students are expected to demonstrate the positive behaviors outlined in the P.E.B.S.
matrix.
 Students are expected to follow class rules.
 Students are expected to communicate in French during class time. (See French
Immersion Guidelines)
 Students are expected to be prepared by bringing their binders, textbooks and
required supplies with them to all classes.
 All notes, class work, assignments, quizzes, and tests will be kept organized in a
binder.
 Textbooks are to be properly covered and returned at the end of the year in the
same condition in which the student received them.

Assessment Guidelines

 Missed tests or quizzes will be written on the first day the student is back in class
unless otherwise arranged with me. Students must provide a written excuse
indicating that the parent/guardian is aware that the student has missed a test or
quiz.
 Students are responsible to study for a test/quiz and ask for extra help before the
test/quiz is written.
 Assignments are checked on a regular basis. Failure to complete assignments will
negatively affect the acquisition of the curriculum outcomes. Students will be
expected to make up missed assignments.
 Any student who misses class due to illness, band, or any other extracurricular
activity is responsible to get caught up on the lesson. (Ask Ms. Henry for handouts.
Ask friends for notes, assignments and classwork. Look online etc.)
 Daily classwork and dates for assignments, projects, quizzes and tests will be posted
online or via Remind

Extra Help

Extra school help will be available after school by appointment only. On occasion students
will be requested to attend extra help after school. Please note that after school help
sessions are occasionally cancelled because of appointments or meetings.
