General information

1 General information
Dear customer,
This service information informs you of the service centres to contact if you have
questions or problems relating to the products from the VAS 505x series (VAS 5051,
VAS 5051B, VAS 5052, VAS 5052A, VAS 5053).
Please note the following in case of questions or problems:

Transport damage / incomplete deliveries

Transport damage and incomplete deliveries of all testers and associated com-
ponents should be reported immediately to the supplier (see delivery order, VW or
Siemens). Further details can be found in the "startup/unpacking instructions" of the
tester.

Warranty and registration

The warranty (24 months, except for wearing parts) is only valid if registration is
carried out. To register, please return the completed registration certificate by fax or
e-mail directly to the Siemens Service Centre in Germany. The address, further
details and a copy of the registration certificate to be completed can be found in the
“Startup/unpacking instructions” for the tester.

Documents for the device/fault report/registration certificate/delivery terms

The entire documentation for the VAS 505x, including service information, is on a
CD/DVD (base CD or separate data carrier) that belongs to the scope of delivery.
The documentation also contains the following service documents:
• General delivery terms (for service)
- General delivery terms for customers based in Germany
("Grüne Lieferbedingungen", PDF file)
- General delivery terms for customers based outside of Germany
(as a PDF file in German and English)
• Registration certificate
(to be filled out as a Word document in German and English)
• Fault report fax (to be filled out as a Word document in German and English)

The documents are on the base CD in the folder:

General information

1.1 Fault with the VAS 505x

If a fault should occur with your unit, please proceed as follows:

- Try to determine what the fault is and to localize it as exactly as possible.
Consult the instructions in the “Troubleshooting” chapter of the hardware
operating manual before contacting the appropriate customer service.
- Use chapter 2 of this service information to check which customer service
centre is responsible for your fault.
- Complete the fault report fax in detail (adding any other relevant details), and
send it to the appropriate hotline.
How to obtain a fault report fax:
- Copy and use the enclosed form (see Appendix to chapter 3).
- Display and print it from the service information on a tester or by inserting the
base CD into a PC (see software operating manual).
- Fill out the Word form from the delivered data carrier (base CD or separate data
carrier).
Instructions for accessing the hardware and software operating manuals can be
found in the “Startup/unpacking instructions” for the tester.

Note
The quickest way to submit your fault report to customer service is by FAX. Please find
the prepared fault report fax and send it to the fax number for your customer service
centre. The Siemens support centres are listed in chapter 3. Give the most precise
description you can of the fault characteristics (messages, etc.), when the fault occurred
and what was happening at the time, what you have already done to locate the fault and
the conclusions you have reached.

Note on central customer service office in Germany

When sending reports to the central customer service office in Germany, note that not all
languages are spoken there. The languages spoken at the central customer service
office can be found in chapter 3.2.

1.2 Problems with OKI printers

For the OKI printers used with VAS 5051 and VAS 5051B, models
OKI B4600, B4350, B4300, M22L, OL6 ex, ML18, OKIPAGE10ex, OKIPAGE14ex,
we ask that you proceed according to the manufacturer's manual (attached) when a
problem arises, so that you may possibly find the source of the problem yourself.

1.3 Returning of VAS 5051x replacement units

If a tester or a docking station needs to be replaced, you will be provided with a

replacement unit, in special packaging, which you should use to return your defective
unit. Return the complete unit, having first removed the accessories (remove
battery, table power adapter and any PCMCIA cards installed).
VAS 5052 docking station
If necessary, remove the “DSS” system number from the tester tray.
VAS 5053
Do not remove the Compact-flash card. It should remain in the tester.

Note on exchanging of cards

Please observe the following for exchanging/removing PCMCIA, Compact Flash
(storage) or other cards in/from the tester:
- Never remove or insert cards when the tester is carrying live current. The tester
must be switched off beforehand.
- Never touch any contacts or electronic parts in the tester since they can be
destroyed by electrostatic charges.

1.4 Updating the service information

This service information is subject to regular updating and is supplied with each base
CD from V10.00 onwards. You should check from time to time whether any changes
have been made.

Service conditions for VAS 505x

Service object
The subject-matter of the agreement is the hotline and replacement service for all VAS 5051/VAS 5051B/
VAS 5052/VAS5052A/VAS 5053 workshop systems (testers) in use worldwide in the VW dealership network and
in authorised VW workshops and independent workshops.
Siemens shall provide the services described below for the aforementioned testers.
Independent workshops
The service and hotline contract is concluded between VW and the independent workshops. The services pro-
vided for these workshops are the same as those provided for the VW dealership network.
Services
An advisory service (hotline) set up by Siemens AG shall be provided for the testers to provide the dealer with
advice by telephone in case of hardware problems. With some faults, the problem can be remedied over the
telephone.
Faults in the hardware shall be eliminated by the delivery of replacement components to the workshops following
consultation with the hotline. As confirmation of these replacement conditions, the dealer shall send a signed copy
of the fault report fax to the Siemens hotline or to an authorised company. Customer will receive a comparable
device of average kind and quality in exchange for the damaged device. The defective component shall be
replaced on site by the workshop.
Minor visual or mechanical signs of use on replacement components are to be accepted by the workshops.
The costs of eliminating excessive signs of use caused by improper treatment will be charged to the workshop.
The costs of service calls to the site are not included in the purchase package.
Should malfunctions occur, which are due to incorrect handling on the part of the customer or external factors, the
customer will also receive an invoice for the repair services rendered within the guarantee period.
Delivery period for replacement components
The delivery of a replacement component to registered workshops takes place within 3 working days without
customs handling, if the technical clearance of the procedure is done before 3:00 pm and a written appointment is
presented by the workshop. Once it is presented the customer approves the service conditions herewith.
Period of service
The advisory and delivery services shall be performed during the usual working hours for the relevant local
Siemens hotline, from Monday to Friday, with the exception of public holidays in the relevant country.
Obligations of the workshop
The dealer undertakes to return the defective component in its special packaging to Siemens AG, or to have it
ready to be picked up (if a pick-up service has been agreed upon), within five days after receipt of the replace-
ment component.
The special packaging will be delivered with the new component.
An invoice of the original price will be sent to the dealer if the dealer does not perform this service.
General delivery terms
Furthermore the general delivery terms for products of the electrical industry ("Grüne Lieferbedingungen") apply
for use in business transactions between companies based in Germany - as of June 2005. The delivery terms are
available on the data carriers.
For customers based outside of Germany the general delivery terms of Siemens apply (the delivery terms are
available on data carriers).
