At least 35 people were killed on Monday and hundreds injured when a gas
tanker exploded in the northern Nigerian state of Nasarawa and started a
blaze, the state emergency agency said. “We are trying to ascertain and liaise with other stakeholders, to get an accurate figure of what was involved on human life and people that were injured,” said Chief Fire Officer, Nasarawa State, Dalhatu Dogara. Footage from Nigerian Television Authority NTA showed fire, smoke rising and injured people being carried away on a stretcher. The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) official said the accident happened at a petrol station along the Lafia-Makurdi road linking the capital city of Abuja with northern and southern Nigeria.
