Title: Left Brain Vs Right Brain Education

Listening and watching activity:

● Let students watch the video about “How left brain works vrs right brain” and then ask
them:
● How areas from the left-brain works on our bodies?
● What is the difference between left and right brain hemispheres?
● Is the inspiration a stage from left-brain?
● Where is the creativeness located in our brains?

Reading activity:

 Form group groups of five and provide some copies about: the function of our brains

a) Speaking Mode: Teacher must read the article firstly (It can do it with students at
the same time).

Reading mode: Students will have the opportunity to read it in groups formed previously
to understand the topic. Additionally ask students to guess for new vocabulary, which is in
cursive way. This can be omitted or not.

Extensive research has proven that the functions of the two hemispheres of the brain tend to be
qualitatively different. The left hemisphere, which for most people is dominant, is the major controller of
speech, reading, and writing; it is the hemisphere toward which education traditionally has been directed.
The right hemisphere excels in nonverbal skills. It also appears to be responsible for providing the intuitive,
imaginative, creative side of human personality. It is the hemisphere that many educators claim has been
neglected in the schools. The challenge for the teacher of reading is to draw upon both modes of knowing
to enhance comprehension. Teachers need to learn how to encourage expression of the nondominant and
creative right hemisphere to facilitate the active, problem-solving left hemisphere; to ignore the function
of the right hemisphere is to teach only half the child. Numerous teaching/learning activities could
effectively be used to draw upon both brain sides; among them: the active art of questioning by both the
student and the teacher; daily exposure to literature and writing opportunities; diagnostic teaching; and
individual conferences. Knowledge of the two hemispheres can help educators see the complexities of
learning more clearly and impress upon them the need for increased diversity in curricula and methods.
Writing activity: Working in appendix 5

 Direct Ss to appendix 5 (Left vr. Right Brain)

 Work on the Appendix 5 chart.
Students must fill the blank options about the video´s questions.
 Provide the page with the brain task.
 Play the video “Are You Right-Brained or Left-Brained?” by BuzzFeedVideo
 Ask some students for their results.

Brain chart example:

Homework Assignment: Let the students express their results in a ten lines paragraph in which
they can write by their own words how can describe themselves and how this experiments affected
or not affected them.

TESTING OUR BRAINS

DO YOU CONSIDERED LEFT-BRAINED OR RIGHT-

BRAINED?
Indications: Choose “A” or “B” and keep track on your answer. You can ask your teacher to pause the video.

QUESTION 1: Which does way the dancer spin? RESULT: To know how your brain works. Let’s
count how many “A’s” or “B’s” do you have.
A B
Depending how many A’s you have; if there are
more than “B’s”, so you use LEFT-BRAIN.
QUESTION 2: Draw a “Q” with on your forehead
However, if you have more “B’s”, so you are using
with your finger. Which direction did you draw it?
