5.3 TEST EQUIPMENT

5.3.1 Followings are the equipment used for the hydrostatic test:

a) Hydrostatic Test Pump

b) Pressure Gauges

c) Gate Valves

d) Pressure & Temperature Recorder

e) Tube and Fittings

f) Pressure Relief Valve

g) Vent Release Valve

h) Water Tank

i) High Pressure Hoses

5.3.2 Pressure recorder and pressure gauge shall have a valid calibration certificates.

5.3.3 The acceptable accuracy for the pressure recorder shall be 0.5% over the full range.

5.3.4 The range of the pressure gauge and pressure recorder to be used shall be within 25%

to 75% of the full range.

5.3.5 A Pressure Valve shall be installed on the discharge of the test pump. Pressure release

setting on the pressure relief valve shall be set at 110% of the test pressure.

5.4 FLUSHING PROCESS

5.4.1 All piping shall be thoroughly flushed to remove weld slag, blast grit, dirt, sand, trash

and other debris and foreign materials.

5.4.2 Carbon steel piping shall be flushed with potable water (Chloride content is no more

than 250mg/kg). Stainless steel piping shall be flushed with potable water with

chlorine content below 30 ppm.

5.4.3 Required flushing flow rates shall be determined based on pipe diameter and flow

velocity. Velocity from 8 to 12 feet per second shall be required for lines up to 10”

NPS. Larger diameter lines shall use the highest velocity reasonably possible.

Compressed air may be injected into water while flushing to increase turbulence and
velocity.

5.4.4 Piping and piping system which cannot be flushed with water shall be blown out with

high pressure, high velocity dries air.

5.4.5 All high points shall be provided with a valve which shall ensure all air is removed

from the line; the low points shall be also fitted with a valve to facilitate the draining

of the line.

5.4.6 Flushing shall be done until the drain water becomes clear and remains clear for a

minimum period of five minutes. When the flushing water discharge is clear and free

from any debris or foreign material to the satisfaction of SSPC representative, stop the

pump and close the valves downstream of the pump discharge and draining points.

5.4.7 Disconnect the pump from the system and retain the system full of water, ready to

continue for hydrostatic test if the water meets the hydrostatic test medium specifications. If
otherwise, the water shall be thoroughly drained and the system shall

be filled up with the hydrostatic test medium.

5.4.8 A Flushing Certificate (Appendix IV) shall be issued for each accepted hydrostatic test.

The SEEN QAQC Inspector, SSPC Representative and 3rd Party Inspector as

applicable shall sign the certificate immediately after the test.
