3.0 Procedure:
3.1 Open a new Lot # in the Laboratory Logbook, the Lot# will be the SO# or the WO# if no
SO# is available.
3.2 Record the chemical supplier, name, grade, Lot # and amount for each of the chemicals
used, example, Spectrum KCl, AR grade, Lot AE45321, 100.5 gm
3.3 Add 500 ml of SOAB to the 1000 ml flask
3.4 Weigh 7.490 ± 0.005 gm Na2S·9H2O and add it to the Flask.
3.5 Add 4-500 ml of distilled water and swirl to dissolve the salt.
3.6 Add distilled water to the 1000 ml mark and add the magnetic stir bar.
3.7 Stir until all salts are dissolved or at least 10 minutes.
4.1 Using a calibrated Sulfide ion electrode verify the solution is 1000 ± 5 ppm
4.2 Adjust if necessary and record the measured value and any adjustments in the Logbook
4.3 Pour the 1000 ppm Stock Solution into 500 ml bottles
4.4 Seal bottles with the screw on lids
4.5 Print labels with Lot# and Expiration date, 3 months from date of manufacture.
4.6 Place label slightly above the center of the bottle and level.
4.7 Release for use.
