Sugar Policies of
Govt. of Indonesia
Govt. of Indonesia: Sugar policies:

GOI sugar policy classification:

– Plantation white for home consumption
– Raw sugar for domestic sugar refining
– Refined sugar for local food and beverage industries

Indonesian regulation prohibits the distribution of refined sugar produced from imported raw
sugar to retail markets for direct human consumption
Govt. of Indonesia: Sugar policies:
• President Mr. Jokowi Widodo goal: self-sufficiency
sufficiency in rice, corn, soybean and sugar production,
in his presidency
• accelerate the development of sugar cane for industrial needs
• offering incentives for those who want to build new cane sugar factories integrated with refinery
• delivering raw materials that sugar cane plantations cannot provide and thus ensure that
machinery is used optimally
Sugar Quality
Sugar Grades:
• Raw Sugar (Gula mentah: SNI 3140.1:2008)
• Plantation white (Gula Kristal putih: SNI 3140.3:2010)

Future!
Future questions!

• Uncertainties!
– Sweetener (Stevia, sweet corn syrup etc)
etc policies
– Post election(2019) Policies
– Attention for potential efficiency improvements
– Sales mechanism

If sweetener is not incorporated in framing overall industrial market with sugar,

sugar refineries may experience substantial threat!
threat
Thank you for attention!
