Specification 2012-10

Class: Plastics Class No.:50


THERMOPLASTIC POLYMER ON THE BASIS OF JED
POLYOXYMETHYLENE (POM)
005M
Previous Edition Part name (for databases)
1999-10 POM 852 000 050 4

1 Scope

The specification refers to the following types:

JED-005M0: standard material for parts which are not exposed to the outdoor atmosphere,
colour natural (if not indicated on the drawing). The material exhibits a high wear
resistance and good dimensional stability;

JED-005M1: corresponding with JED-005M0, but for parts which are exposed to the outdoor
atmosphere, UV-resistant, colour black;

JED-005M2: highly viscous and very tough material for parts with thick walls, which are not
exposed to the outdoor atmosphere, colour natural (if not indicated on the
drawing). The material exhibits a high wear resistance and good dimensional
stability;

JED-005M3: corresponding with JED-005M2, but for parts which are exposed to the outdoor
atmosphere, UV-resistant, colour black;

JED-005M4: material suitable for laser marking (Nd:YAG laser, wave length 1064 nm), with the
properties specified for JED-005M0, for parts which are exposed to the outdoor
atmosphere, UV-resistant, colour black;

JED-005M5: chemically lubricated material with a low coefficient of friction and extreme wear
resistance, with the properties specified for JED-005M0, for parts which are not
exposed to the outdoor atmosphere, colour natural (if not indicated on the
drawing);

JED-005M6: standard material with improved processability but increased swelling due to
humidity, therefore not suitable for parts with very exacting dimensional
tolerances; for parts which are not exposed to the outdoor atmosphere, colour
natural (if not indicated on the drawing);

JED-005M7: corresponding with JED-005M6, but for parts which are exposed to the outdoor
atmosphere, UV-resistant, colour black;

JED-005M8: with special additiv for the reduction of wear and friction, with lower mechnical
properties and heat deflection as JED-005M5. For parts which are not exposed to
the outdoor atmosphere, colour natural (if not indicated on the drawing);

JED-005M9: material with a medium viscosity, with an advanced system of lubrication for
applications requiring low wear and/or coefficient of friction against steel, itself or
other plastics.

If JED-005M is quoted in the drawing JED-005M0 has to be applied.

2 General Requirements

The finished parts shall be homogeneous and free from pores, blisters, and other defects. The
parts must not show any defects such as cracks, voids etc. within its structure.

The requirements for finished parts can be taken from the drawing, the special part specification
and the technical conditions of delivery JED-367 established by WABCO.

All materials, even ingredients in small quantities (e. g. cadmium), which are detrimental to
health or to the environment are banned from being used.

3 Thermal range of application

Continuous operational temperature range: -40 °C to +100 °C

Short-term exposure to heat: 1h at +120 °C

4 Physical Properties

The nominal values given on the following sheets are to be determined according to the test
methods specified.

5 Initial Sampling

At new presentation of a material according to this specification, its technical data must be
indicated (range and mean values according to ISO 2602).

20 test samples (type 1, ISO 527) have to be made available. Whenever possible, these test
samples should be produced by injection moulding into a tool of the appropriate shape.

The supplier guarantees the customer the indicated technical data for all deliveries according to
this specification.

6 Release of a Material

After positive result of the test sample inspection, finished parts are ordered extra for the
validation tests (life tests). The release - which only refers to parts coming from this particular
mould - is made in case of positive result of these tests.

Any modification of the material, of its ingredients or of the manufacturing process parameters of
material or finished parts - no matter of which kind or for which reason - is only permissible after
previous release by the department which is responsible for the technical design.

7 Conditions of Delivery

The material and the finished parts must correspond to the technical conditions of delivery
specified in JED-367.
