BANGKIRAI WOOD / YELLOW BALAU
DEFINITION

BANGKIRAI WOOD / YELLOW BALAU is a type of wood that is quite

durable and strong (durability level I, II, III and strength level I, II). Its hard
nature is also accompanied by a high level of brittleness that makes it easy
for hair cracks to appear on the surface. In addition, this wood is often
found in pinhole. Generally this hair crack and pin hole can be covered with
wood filler. Structurally, this pin hole does not reduce the strength of
bangkirai wood itself. Because of its strength, this wood is often used for
heavy construction materials such as wooden roofs. Bangkirai wood is a
type of weather resistant wood that is often choosen for outside buildings /
exterior such as lis plank, outdoor flooring / decking, etc. Bangkirai trees
are found in tropical rain forests on the island of Borneo. The wood is
yellow and sometimes brownish, which is why it is called yellow balau.
When being cut, the woody part of the porch sometimes looks reddish
brown. Bangkirai can be up to 120 cm in diameter and its height reaches
40 meters. The average diameter is 70-90cm.
