The students will be able to understand the relationship between European explorers and Native Americans by
writing a letter from a Native American or Pilgrims perspective.

“In pairs, I would like you to read both the letters written from a Native
American and European perspective. Once you have finished, pull out a
sheet of paper and draw a Venn diagram with Pilgrims on one side,
Native Americans on the other, and the similarities between the people

around them ideas to include in their letters. They may choose to write
a letter from the standpoint of a European explorer or American Indian.
Each student will be given a copy of the rubric before they write their
letter so they can include all the aspects needed in it.

The modification I am offering in this lesson plan Students are able to listen to the story being read. The letters
is to service students who are blind. can be read to the student online to they can listen and still
participate in pair work. To write their letter at the end, the
student(s) can use a braille type writer. The rubric requirements
can be read off to them and/or translated into braille.
