Analysis of Student Error in Solving Problem of Analytical Geometry of Line
and Circle Material Field

Mathematics is an important science to learn because of mathematicsis a science that has a

characteristic as a science that has an abstract object, patterned on axiomatic deductive
thinking, and also based on truth. Given these characteristics, mathematics is useful in
developing the ability to develop and shape the students themselves. Mathematics as a basic
science is also necessary to achieve high-quality success. Therefore math is taught at all
levels of school, from elementary to college level. In addition, mathematics is also a science
that can be applied to solve problems in everyday life.
One branch of mathematics is analytic geometry. Analytic geometry is the basic course of
geometry that studies the plane. This course aims todeveloping students' ability to understand
geometry building equations on the plane (line and conic section) in the form of a vector
equation, canonical, and parameters, the position of the line against the other lines and the
position of the line against conic sections. Until now geometry is still a course that is
difficult, this is seen from the low value of analytic geometry, transformation geometry and
geometry systems.Student learning outcomes that do not meet expectations showthe problem.
The problem is low scores and information from some of the many math students who have
difficulty in spelling out geometry problems. They revealed that in the learning process of
transformation geometry, students have difficulty in proof of the theorem, working on the
problems of proof, the use of symbols, apply the answers into the picture and understand the
concept of transformation geometry and accuracy in solving problems algebraic
systematically.
Mathematics is a science that is structured so that learning errors previous concepts will
affect the understanding of the next concept. According to Lerner the common mistakes made
by students in working on math tasks ie lack of knowledge about symbols, lack of
understanding of the value of the place, the use of the wrong process, miscalculation, and
unreadable writing so students made the mistake of not being able to read his own writing
anymore. According to Sritarti, students' mistakes in working on the problem mathematics,
among others:

1. Error in making mathematical modeling.

2. The error of concept, that is the mistake in understanding the concept.
3. Systematic error, ie errors pertaining to the election one of the extrapolation techniques.
4. Mistakes Strategy, ie errors that occur because students choose the way doing the wrong
thing.
5. Sign error, ie error in giving or writing marks or mathematical notation
6. Error count, ie error in performing mathematical operations.
From the result of error identification can be concluded that in working on the problem of
analytic geometry there are some errors that done among others are:
1. Concept Error
2. Strategy Mistakes
3. Count Error
4. Systematic Error.
The Concept Error is the student's mistake because it is not understand the concept well. This
aspect is closely related to mastery of material owned by students. From the mastery of that
material has been owned, students are expected to use that concept understanding it has to
solve the problem being faced.
The mistake in understanding the concept is the student's mistake because the weakness of
the concept is mastered. Weak concept of student-controlled can be attributed to the lack of
active participation during lectures. In lectures analytic geometry of some students only get
information anddoing the exercises given by lecturers. Therefore, forunderstanding the
concept better then students must participate actively in lectures and lecturers must provide
tasks in the form of problems and problems on the concept of analytic geometry.
Error Strategy is an error that occurs because students choose how to do the wrong thing.
This error occurs because of a poor understanding of student concepts. When working on a
problem student confusion in determining the next step that should be taken, even though the
student knows the concept or formula used. To minimize such errors students can multiply
the exercise questions so that understanding of the concept can be controlled.
Error counting is an error in performing mathematical operations. This miscalculation is
caused by the inaccuracy of the student in work on the matter even though the students have
mastered the concept given. Systematic error is an error with respect to selection which is
wrong over the extrapolation technique. Systematic errors made withinthis study is an error in
using the formula.
