A TIGER PAWS ITINERARY: JOURNEY TO LADAKH

(LEH - ALCHI - KHARDUNG LA - NUBRA VALLEY - PANGONG LAKE - LEH)

An Introduction:
The weeklong ‘Journey to Ladakh’ tour explores two naturally furnished regions of Ladakh- Pangong
Lake and Nubra Valley. The Nubra Valley is a cluster of tiny villages with irrigated and fertile land. The
presence of Buddhist monasteries can be rightly attributed to its natives which are followers of
Buddhism at large.

Next there is Pangong Lake which is an important breeding ground for migratory birds such as
Brahmini Ducks and Bar-headed goose. Along with these two places, the 6 nights and 7 days tour
package encompasses various high passes and other attractions as well. Mentioned below is the day
wise description of the tour itinerary for your kind perusal.

At an altitude of 3500m- Ladakh a land like no other – the landscape cannot but leave visitors
enraptured by its austere beauty of the terrain and its emptiness. Also popularly known as, ‘The Land
of Mountain Passes’, ‘The Broken Moon’ and ‘Little Tibet’. Situated between the Great Himalayan and
Karakoram chain few settlements here are below 3000m/10,000ft and in winters, the average
temperature drops to -15 Degree Centigrade.

THE ITINERARY

Day 01: Delhi - Leh

Arrive Leh, pick up from the airport and transfer to hotel for acclimatization–Post lunch visit the Shanti
Stupa and post that take a walk down the Leh market
Total travel time: 1 to 2 hrs. Altitude – 3524m
Overnight: Holiday Ladakh/Hotel Kidar or Similar

Day 02: Leh – Alchi – Leh

In the morning, drive towards west of Leh and explore the miniature paintings of Alchi Monastery. The
foundation stone of Alchi Monastery was laid sometime back in 990 A.D. En route, drive past Magnetic
Hall and confluence of Indus and Zanskar River at Nimu. While heading back to Leh, en route visit
Military Hall of Fame.

Day 03: Leh – Nubra Valley
Early morning, leave on road to Nubra Valley via Khardungla Pass which is situated at a height of
18360 ft and considered as one of the highest motorable pass in the world. In the afternoon, explore
Hunder & Diskit monastery and white sand dunes via camel safari. Nubra valley is famous for its cold
desert landscape and the left over double humped camels (Bactrian) from the Silk route trading
days.
Overnight: Mystic Meadow Camp/ Kora Valley (Camp)

Day 04: Nubra Valley – Leh

Following the Samstanling Monastery tour in the morning, you will drive back to Leh via Khardungla
Pass. In the evening, explore the local bazaars (markets) of Leh. One can purchase shopping items
such as Pashmina shawls, Chinese cutleries, good pearls and Ladakhi woolen handicrafts.

Day 05: Leh – Pangong Lake

Early morning leave for Pangong Lake. On the way visit the Shey & Thiksey Monastery. Post that
drive onward to Pangong via Changla Pass 5350m – Once you cross the pass it is a gradual downhill
drive, witness the change in landscape and also get a chance to see the Himalayan Marmots on the
way to the Lake. On reaching the lake, drive another 7kms to reach the camp located in Spangmik
Village- a little away from all the initial crowds at the beginning of the lake
Total travel time: 5 to 6 hrs total travel time. Altitude – 4250m
Overnight: Mystic Meadow Camp/Kora Eco Resort (Camp)

Day 06: Pangong Lake – Leh

Pangong to Leh and on the way visit Stakna Monastery and Stok Palace. The Stok Palace is also
where the royal family resides currently
Total travel time: 5 to 6 hrs total travel time. Altitude – 3524m

Day 07: Leh – Delhi

Morning board flight to Delhi…
