CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

1.1 Introduction

Industrial Training is a mandatory requirement for students in certain programs at all

levels of higher education at the Institute of Higher Learning ( IHL ) . Industrial

Training program was introduced to improve the employability of graduates in order to

strengthen the competency required. Industrial training courses give students learning

opportunities in the working environment to receive practical experience in order to

improve the reliability of its market

These courses provide exposure and experience to students in terms of technological

development, effective communication, team work practices, policies, procedures and

regulations , professional perspective and reporting. This course will build enthusiasm

and a proactive attitude among students and increase their confidence to become an

outstanding trainee.

Students of Polytechnic Kuching Sarawak (PKS) need to undergo industrial training

during the last semester which consists of 20 weeks. Students are given the option to

apply for any firm or industrial training either through personal application or through

the Communication and Industrial Training Unit at polytechnic. Students are also

required to apply for industrial training appropriate to their courses in polytechnics in

order to comply with the scope to be studied at the polytechnic.

In this semester, I have undergone industrial training that began on the 2nd July 2018

until 16th November 2018. During the 20-weeks of industrial training, students must

comply with all regulations and more diligent, dedicated and responsible when assigned

tasks as to obtain excellent results in the first semester of industrial training and maintain

the good name of the Polytechnic. Therefore, the report is an overview of this industry

during my industrial training at Bahagian Perkhidmatan Kejuruteraan Pertahanan.

1.2 Industrial training objective

Industrial training has been required for students of polytechnic to expose the work

atmosphere during industrial training. Where such exposure is important because of

what has followed and studied theoretically in the classroom can be practiced.

Students can relate the theories they have learned with the industrial practice in which

both are closely interlinked with each other. With this, the assignment may be carried

out with enthusiasm and dedication. Therefore, the performance and quality of work in

the firm or industrial training can be improved and implemented in every soul and minds

of students .

In addition, teamwork or group work can also be embedded in students during industrial

training. This is because students are able to work under one roof with good teamwork

with the other workers, whether under the student's supervisor or senior employee of the

industrial training places.

With their industrial training, students are able to practice safety regulations set by the

industry training places. The safety factor is an aspect that needs to be focused upon in

the workplace.
In general, the purpose of industrial training can be listed as follows:

I. Provide opportunities for students to be able to practice all the theories that have
been studied previously at while in polytechnics in order to be balanced between
the theoretical knowledge than practical or otherwise.

II. Expose students to the real nature of careers in addition to train students
themselves in providing a quality report after completing the industrial training.

III. Cultivate the spirit of teamwork and group and also maintains good relationship
with workers during industrial training.

IV. Train students from the scientific development of the courses to produce
balanced, competent, innovate and visionary graduates.

V. Adapt students to the various aspects of their career include the adjustment in
terms of employment.

1.3 The important of industrial training to student

Each student that go through industrial training should record the work done during

industrial training in the book of daily report provided by polytechnic. For students who

have completed the training required by industry to prepare a special report on industrial

training. The main purpose of the report is:


I. Explain in writing, complete and formal on the job or the work done by the
students during his training with the firm or industry training with set of the date
of reporting for duty until the conclusion of industrial training.

II. As an evidence of student in writing about the training process with a firm or
industry.

III. Give the lecturer and reader reports on how students use what they are learning
in polytechnics applied in industrial training

IV. Train the students to take and apply all the pressure while working with resolute
and calm, thus producing an efficient and resolute attitude to face the challenges
ahead.

V. Build a personality and a positive attitude in students to abide by the rules set by
the industry.

VI. Give recognition to the industry where the student train in respect the quality of
works that applied to students while promoting the company name to lecturer
and readers of the report.
